Stardew Valley, despite being a farming simulator, isn’t all peace, parsnips, and rainbows. You won’t just need to mow down weeds on your farmland, you will need to mow down monsters as well. With so many monster types to slay (or run away from), it’s no surprise that Stardew Valley is also filled with weapons to find.
A new sword,Meowmere, has made its debut in Stardew’s 1.6 update and takes its place among some of Stardew’s most memorable weapons. While not the sharpest sword in the sea, what the Meowmere lacks in damage output, it makes up for in cool-factor. Here’s how to find this pawesome new sword.
What Is The Meowmere?
Meowmere is a newlevel-four secret swordthat you’re able to find in the mines or volcanoes of Stardew Valley.
Meowmere pays homage to the sword of the same name from the hit gameTerraria. Fans of Terraria will not only recognize thishard-mode sword, but a few littleEaster eggsin the way the sword is obtained in Stardew.
The sword is a pink and white curved blade with a cat-head handle. An adorable addition to any adventurer’s armory.
How To Get The Meowmere
Unlike other swords in the game, Meowmerecannot be boughtfrom a merchantor dropped by slain monsters. The only way to acquire Meowmere is throughritual sacrifice.
The first step to obtaining Meowmere is to find anAncient Doll. You can find the Ancient Doll bydigging upArtifact Spots,collectingFishing Treasure Chests, or cracking openArtifact Troves.
Finding the Ancient Doll can be tricky considering it hasa drop rate between 0.8 percent and 3 percent. If you’re struggling to find the Ancient Doll, try hunting for Artifact Spots onlucky days(days when the Fortune Teller says the spirits are’Very Happy').
With the Ancient Doll in hand, the next step is tofind a pool of lava. The easiest way to do this is to reachlevel 100 in the mines. There is a sizable lava pool on level 100 that you are able to use for fishing.
Hold the Ancient Dollandinteractwith the lava pool. Interacting with the lava pool willtoss the Ancient Doll into the lavapool, effectively consuming and sacrificing it. With the Ancient Doll sacrificed, a Bone Serpent will emerge from the lava and give you a green prism,the Far Away Stone.
Sound familiar? If you’ve played Terraria, you will recognize that thesame ritualis used when sacrificing the Guide Voodoo Doll tosummon the dreaded Wall of Flesh. You may even recognize the hell-dwelling Bone Serpent that emerges from the depths to bring you the Far Away Stone or the green Forest Pylon in the wizard’s basement.
Before you can reach the next step, you need to ensure you have cultivated agood relationship with the wizard, Rasmodius. If you haven’t already, get your relationship with Rasmodius up tofour hearts. You can do this by bringing him hisfavorite giftsor gifts that all NPCs enjoy like aPrismatic shardor theGolden Pumpkin.This guidedetails his favorite gifts.
Giving an NPCStardrop Tea- which you can acquire fromMayor Lewis’s prize machine- on their birthday or during theFeast of the Winter Starwill increase your relationship with that NPC by3 full hearts. Giving Rasmodius Stardop Tea is aquick way to get to four heartswith him and ultimatelyenter his basement sooner.
The final step of the process is totake the Far Away Stone to the Wizard’s Tower.In the basement of Rasmodius’s room, you will find a strange,plant-like altaron the room’s rightmost wall. Place the Far Away Stoneonto the altar. Once you have placed the stone, you will enter thecutscenewhere you obtain the sword, Meowmere.
A portal to another world will appear before the altar and an adorable little Tabby Cat will walk out. This cat willpresent you with Meowmereright before returning to its home world. Once the cutscene ends, you canhead homewith your new cat-shaped blade.
There isonly one Meowmerein each save file andlosing or destroyingMeowmere will make itirretrievable. There isno way to buy or replaceMeowmere and throwing another Ancient Doll into the lavawill not give you another one. Dying with Meowmere on you may also result in its loss.
If given the choice between Meowmere and other items inMarlon’s recovery service,choose Meowmere. It truly is one of a kind.
Meowmere Stats
Meowmere may be a fun-looking blade, but itis not the most powerfulblade you may get in Stardew Valley. Damage-wise, Meowmere sits in the middle of the pack, with a damage output ofonly 20 damage points.
Meowmere can also besold for 200gto theAdventurer’s Guild, but we don’t recommend parting with it. There isonly one Meowmereper save file andno merchants sell it. You will not find this gorgeous blade in Marlon’s guild shop.
Meowmere is also one of the heavier swords in the game with a+2 weight rating. The cute cat sword also has a+4 speed rating, which is fairly good compared to other sword options.
No additional buffs

Additionally, Meowmere does not give you any special buffs. Other than being able to block incoming attacks, there is no special effect granted when wielding the cat blade. If you’re looking to add special buffs while using Meowmere, you will need to bring along armor items like rings and boots that grant buffs of their own. Otherwise, you essentially have a normal sword.

Is The Meowmere Worth It?
Given the Meowmere’smiddle-of-the-road damageoutput andlack of special buffs, we wouldn’t recommend choosing it as your primary weapon. It also doesn’t help matters that you’re able to only get one Meowmere per save file.
Having Meowmere on your person is not only a little risky, but it doesn’t help you much. Unless you are only in thefirst few levelsof the mines, Meowmerewon’thelp you slay moredifficult monsters.
If you’re looking for afast swordand don’t prioritize damage output, then Meowmere may be agood choicefor you. Otherwise, you’re better off using one of thestronger weaponsin the game.
Meowmere is still worth acquiring for the cool factor, completion points, and experience, but it’snot the best swordin the game.
