Traps and surprises are a big part ofBaldur’s Gate 3when exploring the overworld - particularly in and around dungeons. The Thirsty Ward is one of the most dangerous traps you’ll encounter. After all, no one wants to be on the receiving end of a Fireball, let alone an endless barrage of them.

Thankfully, the Thirsty Ward isn’t too hard to dispel once you know the key. Like every obstacle in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are multiple solutions. If you’re not sure what your options are or what the best might be, don’t worry; we have everything you need to quench that thirsty gargoyle of the Devil’s Fee.

Where To Find The Thirsty Ward

The Thirsty Ward islocated on the upper floor of the Devil’s Feein the Lower City, Baldur’s Gate. You’ll see it at the very top of the stairs, marked by a glowing glyph on the floor (must pass a Perception check or activate it to see it) and a gargoyle head on the wall to the right.

If you step on this ward, aFireball spell will be castand will continue being cast until the ward is dispelled.

How To Get Past The Thirsy Ward

There arethree solid optionsfor getting past this ward:

Theeasiest, story-driven path is always to talk to Helsik first. If you manage to Persuade, Intimidate, or pay her 2,000 gold, she’ll dispel the ward without you ever being the wiser.

If you are the Dark Urge, you do not have to go through the lengthy talk with Helsik to convince her to let you past the ward. Rather, you need only bargain with her about payment or a trade, allowing you to painlessly walk past the ward without getting your nicely dyed clothes singed.

But if you’re not keen on letting Helsik know what you’re up to, you can choose tofind a way up onto the outer balconies(withFly,Enhance Leap,Dimension Door, orArcane Gate) andlockpick your way in.

This does require you to expend spellslots to achieve, especially if you want to take your whole party with you.We would not recommend it.

And finally, if you would like to dispel the ward yourself, you can venture upstairs to the Thirsty Ward gargoyle head.

Press it and insert a Water(the consumable, throwable item). This will dispel the ward entirely and give you access to the door.

What lies beyond the door is your path to one of the most complex and fun dungeons in Baldur’s Gate. But first? You’ll haveone more puzzlestanding in your way.

Use only one person to disable the trap, as following NPC companions like to wander onto the trap while you’re trying to disable it.
