Jeremy Hartwood is chasing a lot of things, including demons. In his various writings and memories, there is often mention of an evil presence known as the ‘Dark Man’. Foreboding as it is, you do indeed bump into him. Your first time meeting the Dark Man inAlone in The Darkis in the Great Library of Taorella, and all you can do is run.

It’s not about outlasting the Dark Man or escaping him, there is a bit of a puzzle to this area. There are items you have to select and use as you try to survive the Dark Man’s presence. This guide will go into detail about how to escape the Dark Man and get out of this area.

How To Get Away From The Dark Man

The Dark Man spawns as soon as you collectThe Key of Hubertus. Don’t run anywhere in a panic,turn aroundanduse The Key of Hubertus on the Hollow Cross pedestalbehind you. This will unleash a ladder downward.Use the ladderto access the lower levels.

The Dark Man will hunt for you andteleportaround as you progress through this area.

You can hide from him by crouching behind furniture. He will just start hunting in random areas.

You are able tododge past the Dark Manand survive as long as you arein the outer area of the dark mistand not directly in front of him.You can run through his mist,but you cannot dodge past him, you will just die instantly if you try.

To survive the Dark Man, you will have tododge through his mist, hide, or lure him outin order to evade him.

On the first floor you are on when the Dark Man spawns,there is a room you can hide in that the Dark Man cannot access.

Walk all the way past him to the back wall. There is a crack in the wall, behind some vines, that you can slide through.

How To Get To The Caged Room

The main goal is touse The Key of Hubertus on three different Hollow Cross pedestals.

Each pedestal willunlock a nearby ladder. These ladders will drop in front of you.Use these ladders to evade the Dark Manand reach the next Hollow Cross pedestal.

The ladder will be hard to notice when you are trying to survive, but it willalways spawn directly in front of youupon using the key.

The trouble here comes with evading the Dark Man while trying to find each Hollow Cross. This is a step-by-step of where each Hollow Cross is.

Once you access the cage, the Dark Man will catch up with you and a cutscene will ensue
