After doing this, you will learn of a ‘Classified Foe’ in the area, locatedtoward the center of the regionon the island, surrounded by destroyed ships and pipelines. Once you make your way onto this island, Mai will begin giving you lore details about theMindflayer,allowing you tohold Triangle to summonit into the area.
Once summoned, the encounter against theMindflayerwill begin. It’s crucial to note that thisbattle is neither timed nor has any specific challengesfor you to complete during it. Simply taking down the Mindflayer is good enough here!

For this encounter, we strongly recommendconstantly switching between your active partymembers tobuild and use their ATB.Not only will thisslowly chip away at the Mindflayer’s massive 20,000+ Health Pool,but it will also allow you toexecute Synergy Attacks,which areneeded to Pressure and Staggerthem.
Regarding team composition, we feel thatCloud, Tifa, and Aerith strike a solid balance,enabling you toswitch to Aerith for ranged pokes and heals,whileTifa can close the gap and unleash a barrage of attacks to build her ATB Gaugefast and consistently. Remember, building and exhausting your ATB is crucial in this encounter.
Lastly, after youfinally manage to Stagger the Mindflayer,we recommendfocusing on Cloud and Tifaduring this time, asbuilding their Limit Gauge will be super beneficial for landing the finishing blows.Fortunately, this will build naturally as you perform Synergy Attacks and Punish/Stagger the enemy.
Mindflayer - Astral Apprehension
One of Mindflayer’s strongest attacks is itsAstral Apprehension,having it summon abarrage of lightning strikesaround it in alarge AoE.As soon as you see the Mindflayer begin conjuring this action,move far away from it, look at the ground to see where the strikes are falling, and avoid themat all costs!
Mindflayer - Sinister Seizure
While the Mindflayer has many devious and hard-hitting attacks, its ability toTeleportand performSinister Seizureis particularly the most troublesome, as it cangrab its target, hoist them high into the air, and unleash a barrage of eldritch horrorsonto them for massive damage.
Themoment you see Mindflayer teleport, begin running far away from where you just were.Even if this risks not being able to get some damage here, it’s better to be safe than sorry here, as this attack is brutal!
