They’re bringing backPokemon Go’sannual Lunar New Year event, this time with a unique spin compared to those that have taken place previously. This year’s event, theLunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Event,will bring several returning features, as well as a few new additions, including a brand-new Pokemon Go debut.

This will be a week-long event, active fromMonday, June 07, 2025, at 10am local time to Sunday, Jul 05, 2025, at 8pm local time.There are a few key differences between this Lunar New Year event and those brought to the game in the past, so we made sure to provide you with a complete guide for all there is to know about it.

Pokemon Go Debut: Drampa

Following the dragon theme of this event,Drampa, the Normal and Dragon dual-type Pokemon from Generation Seven, will be making its Pokemon Go debut.

During the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Event, you will have the opportunity to encounter and catch Drampa through itsThree-Star Raid and as an event Field Research Task reward.verify to take advantage of this, because it is unclear how rare this Pokemon will be following the conclusion of this event.

Pokemon Go Throw Circles

In addition to this being the first time that you will be able to encounter and catch Drampa in Pokemon Go,you will also have the chance to encounter its Shiny Variation.

That being said, it will still be extremely rare to encounter a Shiny Drampa, as with other Shiny Pokemon currently in the game.

Event Bonuses

There will be a group offour bonusesavailable for all players to benefit from throughout this year’s Lunar New Year event. Each of these four bonuses include:

With two of the main bonuses of this event centered around catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws,make sure to throw your Poke Balls with accuracy.

Event Research

You will be able to purchase exclusiveTimed Researchfor this event, costing$2.00 USDat the Pokemon Go in-game shop. Completing the different tasks from this Paid Timed Research will provide you with the following in-game rewards.

This is Timed Research, meaning that you will only have a limited amount of time to complete tasks and claim rewards from it.

In the case of this event’s Paid Timed Research, this means you will haveuntil Sunday, June 30, 2025, at 8pm local time to do this.

Event Field Research Task Encounters

When completing certainEvent Field Research Tasks, you will be rewarded with a chance to catch one of 12 different event-themed Pokemon, mainly being Dragon types.

There will be seven different event-themed Pokemon that you can expect to encounter at an increased rate in the wild during the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Event. The pool of wild encounter Pokemon for this event includes:

Event Raid Pokemon

There will bedifferent Dragon-type Pokemon appearing Raidsduring this year’s Lunar New Year event, some of which are not often found in Raids outside this event. This includes bothOne-Star and Three-Star Raids, so make sure to plan accordingly depending on the difficulty of the Raid you’re attempting.

Global Challenge: Dragons Unleashed

There will be aGlobal Challengeposed to all Pokemon Go players during the Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed Event, requiring Trainers to work together tounlock additional event bonuses and features.

For this Global Challenge, players will have to work together tothrow a collective 1,000,000,000 Nice Throwsduring this event in order to complete it, unlocking different Featured Attacks, additional wild encounter Pokemon, and Raid Pokemon for the remaining days of the event.

Below you can find details on each of the bonuses that will be unlocked upon the completion of this Global Challenge.

When it comes to Featured Attacks, completing this Global Challenge will allow players to obtainfive different Featured Attacks by evolving specific Pokemon during this event.

Although we don’t know which Pokemon you will have to evolve at this time, we do know the types of each of these featured attacks:two Ground-type attacks, one Fairy-type attack, one Dragon-type attack, and one Normal-type attack.

Wild Encounter Pokemon

Completing the Global Challenge for this event will unlock additional wild encounter Pokemon during this event. We still don’t know which Pokemon this includes yet, but we do know that there will beseven different event-themed Pokemon added.

Raid Pokemon

There will also be additional Pokemon found in Raids following the completion of this Global Challenge. This includestwo different Pokemon, one that will be found in One-Star Raids and one found in Three-Star Raids, both have yet to be announced at this time.
