Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthdoesn’t take long before you’re swimming in side quests. Five can be found in the opening region, the Grasslands, each with its own full-fledged story. Most of them pull one of Cloud’s companions into the mix, shining a spotlight on their characterization while providing affinity points in the process.

A Lifeline in Peril is one such side quest. You’ll find it in Kalm, and Barret is the star player here. Or rather, he’s supposed to be; in true Kyrie fashion, she rather hijacks the whole charade in a comedic Rebirth return. Let’s clean up her mess, shall we?

How To Begin A Lifeline In Peril

Like most Grasslands side quests,A Lifeline in Peril is available anytime after you have caught Piko, the chocobo whose services are required in order to cross the swamp.

Your client isMayor Fritz, and you’ll find himin the town square surrounded by a boisterous crowd. He’s the guy in the green suit.Interact with Fritz to commence a conversationthat leads to the commencement of this quest.

You can always check theCommunity Board(in Kalm and the rest of FF7 Rebirth’s hubs) to acquireinfo on the clients who seek your services, but in this case, you can simply walk up to Fritz with or without this step.

It seems there’s a new merc in town, but they’ve up and vanished with their job left unfinished. Fritz hires Cloud and Barret tofind the merc somewhere in the wasteland between Kalm and Midgar, find out why there’s been such a holdup, and report back with their findings.

Pipeline Dreams

The location of themercenary you’re looking for is marked on the map.As you may not have explored this wasteland portion of the Grasslands yet, be advised thatenemies are generally a tad tougher. It’s nothing you won’t be able to handle, but it’s noticeable.

Follow the mini-map to the destination, where Cloud will not-so-happily learn that the alleged merc is none other than FF7 Remake’s troublesome Kyrie. Naturally, you’ll soon need to do her work for her -we need to collect pipeline repair materials.

The materials arestrewn throughout the nearby area, andgreen markerssituated above themwill separate them from the resources you’ll commonly bump into along the way.

It won’t take more than a handful of moments to gather the minimum number of Rusted Sheet Metal and Corroded Nails to continue, butif you want the optimal results for this side quest, gather three Rusted Sheet Metals and five Corroded Nails.

Noxicap, an FF7 Rebirth enemy, reveals its assess data

Noxious And Obnoxious

When you bring the pipeline resources to Kyrie, the second step in A Lifeline in Peril commences:Kyrie requires Cloud and the others to accompany heras she moves between damaged pipeline spots.

Predictably,a number of combat encounterswill erupt while Cloud is busy playing bodyguard for the gal. You’ll face one monster the first time, and two the second time. In both cases, your opponent is called a Noxicap.

The Noxicap is a mushroom-likepoisonous creature that almost immediately spits out a cloud of spores. On contact, this cloud will poison you,so this fight is best-won from afar.

This makesBarret and Aerithsensible partners, whileRed and (especially) Tifa, with their more close-range connections, could prove to be liabilities by comparison.

TheNoxicaps are weak to Fire, so bust out that Fire magic.Equipping it to either Aerith or Cloud, with theirhigh Magic Attack stat, will speed up the amount of time you’ll be stuck dealing with these pests.

With Kyrie off to who-knows-where (actually, we’ll find out later),return to Mayor Fritzfor a warm welcome. Your rewards come in the form ofEXP, Party EXP, Gil, and affinity points toward Barret.
