Back on the second floor, examine the Phonograph, then follow Bugenhageninto the nearby room. Once the cutscene ends, exit the Cosmo Observatory, andone of Bugenhagen’s assistants will guide you to the Observatory Treasury.

Going tothe treasury is completely optional, but it’s worth looting the place. Here, you’ll finditems for transmutation, Moogle Medals, and some Gil.You’ll alsofind the Crystal Megaphone weapon for Cait Sith; this weapon teaches the Moogle Magic ability.

Red XIII’s Trial

Once the ceremony ends, follow Bugenhagen to a secluded area.At a locked door, Bugenhagen will ask if you’re ready to begin a trial for Red XIII. Once you agree to the trial, only Barret will accompany Red XIII.

While controlling Red XIII, you canclimb up glowing walls to reach new areas.Take some time to explore along the walls tofind transmutation materials, chests, and other rare items.

After gaining control of Red XIII,continue following the waypoint and defeating enemiesin your path. When you enter a room with a locked door, climb up the glowing wall directly in front of the door. Here, you’ll finda rope that can be cutto unlock the door.

Continue along the path until youenter a room with a statue of a Gi.In this room, climb the left wall and move towards the platform at the top of the roomto find the red artifact. Bringing the artifact back to Bugenhagen will summon a Gi Lancer, which you’ll need to defeat to progress.

Despite the cutscene introducing this enemy,it is not a boss encounter. The Gi are an enemy type you’ll frequently encounter during the trial. They areweak to fire and healing spells, so using Curaga on them will take out a huge chunk of their health.

You can find many artifacts around the roomand bring themto Bugenhagen. Doing so willreward you with useful items and transmutation materials. There’s an artifact on the platform right of the giant door that will net youthe Mystic Collar weapon for Red XIII.

Chamber Of Observance

After defeating the Gi Lancer, pick up the red artifact and carry on. Soon you’ll enter the Chamber of Observance, you’ll findfour altars that need to be activated to progress.

Each altar requiresan artifact that corresponds to its color. The pink altar is already activated, so you may place thered artifact onto the red altarto activate it.

To the right of the yellow altar, you’ll find the yellow artifact at the top of some steps.

To find the green artifact, you’ll need to headdown the steps where you found the yellow artifactand follow the path.

When you reach the gap, you cancross by climbing the glowing wall on the left.Continue moving straight, and you’ll soon find a dead end withthe green artifact sitting before a glowing shrine. On your way back, another Gi Lancer will jump out to impede your progress.

Back at the altars, placing the green artifact on the green altar will open the giant door in the center.

Chamber Of Sacrifice

Follow Bugenhagen through the open door, and he’ll lead you through the Chamber of Sacrifice. You’ll be led up to an area overlooking a series of gates.

Head down the steps in front of you, defeat enemies, andcontinue along the path to reach your first gate.To open the gate, pull the chain on the right side of the gateas far back as it can go.

Before going through the gate, turn around and grab the purple chest near the enemies. This chestcontains the Calamitous Bazooka weapon for Barret. This weapon teaches the Smackdown ability.

As you carry on, you’ll come acrossanother chain you’re able to pull on to create a bridge.Continuing past the bridge will bring you to the second gate. Just like with the first gate, you’ll need topull on the chain to open the gate.

However, the gate will close if you let go of the chain. To keep the second gate open, you need tomove the chain to the right and connect it to the hook. This will prevent the chain from falling back and shutting the gate.

After moving through the second gate, head up the set of stairs on the left. Now, you’ll be at the third and final gate.

At the third gate, start bypulling the chain in front of you.Pulling this chain summons a series of platforms, allowing you to reach the glowing walls on the left and right sides.Move over to the glowing wall on the right, climb to the top, and pull the chain here.

Now,move back to the bottom floor and approach the gate. This gate functions just like the second gate and will close if the chain is dropped. However, there’s no hook to attach the chain to, so you’ll need to find something to hold it onto.

Move over to the left side of the gate andpick up the stick there.Take the stick andplace it in the slot on the right side of the gate.Nowpull the chain back and hook it onto the stickto keep the gate open.

Your final trial awaits in the room past the rest stop, so be sure tostock up on supplies before moving on.

Fixed Damage

Proportional Damage, Slow, Petrify, Stone, Morphable Item

Inflicting a lot of damage will pressure the enemy. Staggering the enemy will undo any active curses.

With no weaknesses to exploit, you’ll need torely on powerful abilities to stagger Gi Nattak.

It’s best to spend a majority of the fightplaying as Red XIII to block attacks and build up the Vengeance gauge.Red XIII is alsobetter suited for dodgingGi Nattak’s unblockable abilities like Wrathful Lunge.

Use Barret’sFocused Shot ability with a fully charged ATB gaugeto pressure Gi Nattak. Red XIII and Barret’sUnited Refocus Synergy Abilityis great for increasing the potency of Focused Shot and Maximum Fury.

At half health, Gi Nattakwill randomly summon a swarm of Soul Flames. These smaller enemies are weak and can be taken out pretty quickly by your party. Red XIII’sStardust Ray has the range to eliminate multiple Soul Flamesat once.

Failing to defeat the Soul Flames quickly willgive them a statue. The Soul Flames will pass these statues over to Gi Nattak, whichallows him to inflict multiple status ailmentson your party. Gi Nattak’s statues allow him tohalve your HP, halve your MP, deplete the ATB gauge, or shrink the battlefield.

At a bit less than half health, Gi Nattakwill cast Doom on your party.A timer will appear above your head. Once it hits zero, you’re done for.Save at least one Limit Break for this momentto quickly put an end to the fight.

Zack Interlude

After the battle with Gi Nattak, follow Bugenhagenand watch the cutscene. Eventually, you’ll switch back over to Cloud. From here, follow Yuffieinto the cave and watch another cutscene.

You’ll then switch over to Zack. Much like any other Zack section, all you need to do is follow the waypoints and watch the cutscenesto advance.

The Gi Village

In the village, you’re able toswitch up your party formationto whatever you like. There are no boss encounters coming up, so don’t think too hard about which party members to use.

Instead, focus on equipping your assembled party with fire and healing materia. As you follow Yuffie up the mountain, you’llneed to fight several Gi enemies.

Remember toeliminate Gi Sorcerers first.Gi Sorcerers arecapable of reviving dead alliesand prolonging the fight. They evade normal attacks, so you have to use magic.

After reaching the top of the mountain and watching the cutscene, you’ll be teleported back to Cosmo Canyon. Follow the assistant here back to Bugenhagen for another round of cutscenes. Now, head back to the Cosmo Canyon airstrip, use the telephone booth, and head to the Nibel Airstripto complete chapter ten.
