World of Warcraft Dragonflightdid several new things to give players more flexibility in improving their characters through gear. By adding the possibility of getting sockets into a necklace, players have less randomness or RNG to worry about when they are finding the best gear or min-maxing their secondary stats.
If you don’t have the best secondary stats gear, you can get those additional stats from a total of three gem slots added to your necklace. However, how do you add these sockets and what are the restrictions?
How To Add A Gem Slot To Your Neck
The main way to add a gem slot to your neck isby using a Tiered Medallion Setting. These are crafted by Jewelcrafters who have the recipe unlocked, andyou can buy them from the auction house if you don’t want to craft them.
It is better to craft them if you have the recipe available becauseJewelcrafting is one of the best gold-making professions in Dragonflight. Most players need crafted necklaces and rings on top of these Tiered Medallion Settings, and when everyone is adding sockets to their neck, they’ll need crafted gems made by Jewelcrafters, too.
These Tiered Medallion Settings have three different rankings, depending on how they were crafted. They can either be one-star, two-star, or three-star, and the skill or inspiration of the crafter matters here becauseif they don’t have enough specialization, skill, and inspiration, it’ll be difficult to craft a three-star Setting.
All the rankings add sockets to your neck, but since you can add a total of three sockets to your neck, you need the appropriate ranking to add the next gem slot; for example,if you have a neckpiece without any sockets, you can use any Tiered Medallion Setting rank to add a socket.However,for the second socket, you’ll need a two-star and above setting, and for the last socket, you’ll need a three-star one.
This only matters if the prices of the Tiered Medallion Settings are different for each rank on your server;if the cheapest one is the three-star Tiered Medallion Setting, you might as well buy three of them.
If you are gearing alts or other characters,you might want to wait for the perfect necklace before adding these, as it can be quite expensive to buy these Tiered Medallion Settings every time you get a slightly better necklace.
