Final Fantasy as a series has always found ways to reinvent party management and upgrades, whether that be with the materia system in the original Final Fantasy 7, or the sphere grid in Final Fantasy 10. Not to be outdone,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthadds its own wrinkle to the series' grand tradition with the introduction of the folio system.
Folios function almost as the culmination of Rebirth’s multitude of leveling techniques, requiring you to understand how each one functions in order to get the most out of your characters. Only by using them all in tandem can you reach each party member’s true potential.

What Is The Folio System?
In the most simple terms, the folio system is how you upgrade your party membersin Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This is shown to you visually through a series of interconnected nodes, each of which will confer to your character a new synergy skill, ability, or stat boost. You must progress through the nodes linearly, meaning you will have to purchase a skill if you wish to acquire the ones adjacent to it.
You will not have your character’s entire folio when you start the game. The number of skill nodes you have access to isgated behind your party level. As you complete quests and increase your party level, you will uncover more upgrades for each party member.

Additionally, certain skills can be locked behind a required weapon level, requiring you to clear a certain experience threshold before adding them to your arsenal.
How To Unlock Nodes
Party level governs the nodes you have access to, butthey are actually unlocked by using SP, or skill points.SP can be acquired in a variety of ways, such as leveling up andpurchasing manuscripts.
Thetotal amount of SP you’ve gained controls the level of your weapons, butit also functions as a currency within the folio system. The first few upgrades won’t be too costly, but they become expensive very quickly.
When you enter the first screen of the folio menu, you’ll be shown each character’s SP in the form of a fraction. The number on the left side represents the SP currently available, while the one on the right shows their SP total. Your total is important because if you want, you’re able to have all those skill points refunded to you, allowing you to respec your character.
Folios can not be altered in the menus, and insteadrequire you to visit specific locations. Be on the lookout forMaghnata book stores in towns and Automats throughout the worldin order to upgrade your characters. They will appear as a book icon on your map.
