Summary

To celebrateLike a Dragon Weekhere at TheGamer, we thought we’d take a look at the best part of any Yakuza game: the side quests. Side quests, or substories, in the mainlineYakuzaseries generally don’t have that much an impact on the actual story of the game. However, they can give you a good insight into the characters and how they think. They can also feature wildly outlandish premises and gameplay. The various missions are a great way to immerse yourself in the world and get attached to your protagonist.

Unfortunately, there are a handful of substories that are missable, which means you’re either going to have to keep a plethora of saves or be willing to replay the game if you want to see every available substory in the Yakuza franchise

There Are 826 Side Quests In The Mainline Yakuza Games

Most games in the mainline Yakuza series have around 70 substories and, if you’re not constantly wandering around the city and talking to people in between the actual story sections, then you’re going to miss most of them. However, none should be permanently missable, courtesy of the inclusion of premium mode in every Yakuza game outside of the 2005 edition and Yakuza 2. Concerning Yakuza (2005) and Yakuza 2, however, there are only one or two substories that could be permanently missable.

Yakuza 3 Has The Most With 119 Side Quests

Taking the lead for the most substories is Yakuza 3, sporting 119 substories, split between Kamurocho and Okinawa. This, of course, means that if you’re trying to be a completionist that you’re going to have to spend a lot more time wandering around than you may originally intend.

Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life Has The Least With 51 Side Quests

At the bottom of the list for the least amount of substories in a mainline Yakuza game is Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life, with a measly 51 substories. Unfortunately, the newer games seem to follow this pattern of fewer substories, withYakuza: Like A DragonandLike A Dragon: Infinite Wealthhaving 52 substories each.
