We have a rare update onHollow Knight: Silksong, with a developer responding to a question about the long-awaited sequel. Over on Twitter, head of marketing and publishing at Team Cherry, Matthew Griffin, confirms that Silksong is “still in development”, but doesn’t have anything else to say about the project.

This comes afterwe pass the five-year mark since Silksong was revealedwithout much to show for it. It also comes after theplanned 2023 release window has come and gone, as we now have no idea when Team Cherry is hoping to launch Silksong.

Griffin’s statement on Silksong is short and sweet, simply writing, “No need to worry; Silksong is still in development.”

The reaction to this comment has been mixed, to say the least. In the replies, many are clearly frustrated, wishing Team Cherry had more to say about the state of Silksong right now. Some say they want more transparency, explaining why the initial launch window was missed and, now months later, we’re still waiting on a trailer.

However, on theSilksong subreddit, there’s more understanding. Some speculate that we aren’t being shown a trailer yet because Silksong is aiming to launch on the Switch 2 - a console that hasn’t even been announced yet. This is a possibility, as reports indicate thatdevelopers are already working on games for this new console. Still, Silksong entered development years ago and, as far as we know, hasn’t become a Nintendo exclusive, so that doesn’t mean Team Cherry can’t show off anything from the game.

With all that said, we’re slowly inching closer to the summer, where more gaming showcases are expected. Whether it’s at an event for a particular console, like PlayStation’s State of Play, or something wider like Summer Game Fest, Silksong has plenty of opportunities to unveil a new trailer.

For the fanbase’s sake, let’s hope this reveal comes soon. As we reported earlier this year, fans were so desperate for news that theythreatened to delete the Silksong subreddit- and several other subreddits. The hope was that these sacrifices would please Team Cherry, and encourage the studio to drop a new trailer. Alas, here we are, still waiting.
