Helldivers 2was in a pretty good place a few days ago, following weeks of server issues due to an explosion of popularity that pretty much nobody expected, including the game’s own developers. Arrowhead had finally got things under control following several fixes and the addition of AFK timers, but the addition of mechs once again has Helldivers 2 struggling under the weight of its own player base.
Earlier this week, it was announced by the Helldivers 2 Twitter account that the planet of Tien Kwan was under attack by Automatons, and that it wouldneed to be liberated for the planet’s factories to begin pumping out mechs. That promise had players flocking back to Helldivers 2, and to the battle taking place on Tien Kwan, andthe Automaton threat was swiftly eradicated. Unfortunately, now a lot of people want to try out a mech of their own, and Helldivers 2 is struggling to deal with it.
This is according to Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt, who explained in a recent Twitter post that current server issues are being caused by “too many trying to acquire the mech at the same time”. Those behind Helldivers 2 are currently doing their best to try and mitigate the issues until things calm down once again, and Pilestedt has called on the game’s fans for patience and understanding.
It’s also possible that Arrowhead may have been caught out once again by the eagerness of Helldivers 2 fans, as Pilestedt seems to imply that the developers thought they had more time to prepare for mechs than they actually did. After talking about the server issues, Pilestedt reveals that the planet of Tien Kwan was actually liberated over four times faster than the developers intended, in what will bea big blow to game master Joel’s self-esteem.
For now, it may be worth leaving Helldivers 2 for a little bit and coming back tomorrow when things will have settled down slightly. Joel may not sleep, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t either, and your mech will be waiting for you when you come back to the game. It’s the perfect time to get some rest solider, you’ve earned it.
