Helldivers 2doesn’t have any melee weapons, even though there’s a stat for getting melee kills. The only way to increase it right now is to bash enemies with a gun butt, which is what one player is doing to try and convince developer Arrowhead to finally add some more variety.

“I WON’T STOP ‘TILL I’M GIVEN A MELEE WEAPON, JOEL,” one fan wrote on the subreddit, referencing the Game Master pulling the strings of the ongoing war(as reported byVG247).

The first Helldivers game had a saber and bayonet, but fans are hoping for a more diverse arsenal in the sequel.

PoopyDevourer (or xXIns1d1ousXx, if you prefer) has amassed 1116 melee kills so far, which means they’ve bashed the ever-living hell out of over 100 enemies. It’s a bold way to get Arrowhead’s attention, but the community is backing this endeavour, joining their call for melee weapons.

“I really, really want a cool military saber in this game,” Ninjamurai said. “Have it be a secondary slot weapon, let us keep it held in one hand while using a one handed primary like the defender and I’ll never touch the breaker again. I want to main the sword and gun at the same time.”

Some recommendations include:

“A-fu**ing-men,” PotatoeSprinkle2747 commented in agreement. “I jump into swarms and melee the crap out of everything. My greatest accomplishment is meleeing the tail offa very damaged charger, but lord help me, if I get a real melee weapon I will never swap off it…”

“A melee weapon would be a fantastic secondary, or even as a primary if it was given medium armour penetration,” AnOldAntiqueChair added. “I could see a massive power hammer with heavy armour penetration and maybe a stun being a support weapon, too.”

Whether or not bashing a bunch of bug skulls gets melee weapons added to the game or not, we know Arrowhead has plans for expanding the ways we tackle missions.APC vehicles recently leaked, a four-seater with a turret mounted on top. But that’s too safe, hand me a shovel and let me bonk the giant robots.
