Master Chief is undoubtedly one of the most iconic video game characters of all time. What makes Master Chief so cool is not just his legendary personality and skill, but his iconic armor, which he doesn’t like to be separated from. This armor has seen minor changes throughout theHalo series, but its overall look has remained the same even after many years.

There have been plenty of debates among fans on which armor of Master Chief is the best, with everyone having their favorites. This list will rank all the armor Master Chief has ever worn based on their different designs.

8Halo 4

This is a controversial one as a lot of people hated the direction that 343 Industries chose to take with Halo 4 in terms of the visuals of Master Chief. The developerscompletely overhauled the look of Master Chiefto make him look extremely tank-like. There are a lot more enhancements in the armor with most of them not serving any purpose except to make it look more bulky.

It also made no sense to change the armor so drastically as Halo 4 was a direct continuation of its predecessor. Regardless, the heavy-duty version of Master Chief is not something most people like to see, even if it is more realistic and lifelike.

7Halo 5: Guardians

While most people don’t even notice the difference between Master Chief’s appearance inHalo 4 and 5,there were some slight changes that made him look better. This armor is a little more green and the helmet looksa lot more like the one in Halo 2 or 3.

But there are still many shortcomings, such as the weird shoulder plates that look like they aren’t attached to the rest of the armor. In terms of the chest and abdomen area, it almost feels as if random bits have been added to the armor for no reason but to make him look stronger.

6Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn isn’t too fondly remembered by most Halo fans and Master Chief’s armor in it wasn’t anything too special either. The major problem with this armor isn’t the design, but more so the fact that it looks like the armor is made of plastic, which takes away from its realism.

In terms of pure design, the show actually does a decent job and sticks true to the games. The streamlined version of the armor looks good and was a great starting point that the next TV series would improve on.

5Halo (TV series)

While it may not have lived up to its expectations, the TV serieshas done a decent job of portraying Master Chief’s appearance. The armor in this show is realistic and accurately portrays how a live-action Master Chief should look.

The helmet design is similar to the original Halo games. The shoulder plates look similar to the MJOLNIR GEN 2 Mark VI from Halo 5 and the rest of the armor takes elements from the iconic armor we have seen over the years.

4Halo: Combat Evolved

Halo: Combat Evolved was the first Halo game and the first time we saw Master Chief in action. Although this armor doesn’t look too amazing by today’s standards,it was something special back in 2001as people weren’t used to video game characters having such technologically advanced designs, especially on consoles.

In terms of pure design, while this was a great starting point for more advanced designs in the future, it isn’t too impressive. Several parts of the armor seem too clunky, and the helmet almost looks like a hat at times because it has a brim sticking out of it.

3Halo 3

Master Chief’s armor inHalo 3was quite similar to Halo 2 but just slightly underwhelming. This one is a lot less green in terms of its color and is a slightlymore realistic version of the Mark VI in Halo 2. This armor is also slightly bulkier, which was a visual change that fans weren’t too thrilled with at the time.

The biggest change this armor introduced was the hand armor plate, which was redesigned to look bigger and more realistic. This is a tough one to rank, as some players like the minor changes while some don’t even notice them.

2Halo 2

Halo 2introduced the first version of the Mark VI armor, which would become the benchmark for all upcoming armor in the series. This was a huge step up from the armor we saw in the first Halo game and features a much better-looking and more intricate design.

The level of detailing on the visor and making it reflective was a huge change and added a lot more to the look of the armor. This is the most iconic armor Master Chief has ever worn, and it looks even better visually in the Anniversary Edition of the game.

1Halo Infinite

Halo Infinitecompletely redesigned Master Chief’s armor once again and ended up making it better than ever. This version of the armor takes inspiration from past Halo games and makes the suit look heavy yet more streamlined. Thismakes the armor look realistic while maintaining the classic look that most fans expect from Master Chief.

The helmet also goes back to its roots and is very similar to the one we saw in the first Halo game. What’s so good about this armor is that it is very simple. It doesn’t use additional details for no reason and keeps things basic yet good as ever.
