Whether or not it describes your playstyle, everyone can understand where the completionist is coming from. After all, if you love something, don’t you want to fully explore what it has to offer? To this end you might spend hundreds of hours, or even hundreds of dollars, in search of something no one else has ever seen before. And for the sweet, sweet bragging rights of claiming 100 percent.

Developers also know this, and, sometimes, they include in-game jokes set to tease completionists. From mocking lines in dialogue to silly achievements, these games have fun with players who are willing to dedicate any amount of time and energy necessary to seeking out every last secret a game has to offer.

Character wearing a “I completed Grand Theft Auto Vice City and all I got is this lousy t-shirt” t-shirt.

9Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

I Completed Vice City And All I Got Was This Lousy T-shirt

It shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s playedGTA Vice Citythat the game can get a little silly, and this end reward is no exception. Fully completing this game does get you more than this t-shirt, called the Frankie outfit, but it really is the cherry on top.

After all, what more could you ask for than to have your achievement plastered across your character’s chest? This achievement assumes that completionists are at least a little vain about their achievement while also riffing off a classic souvenir.

Spider Man Two Map With Hint Markers

8Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Something Different

Spider-Man2 has a lot of fun with Bruce Campbell as the narrator, as any completionist probably already knows. In the game, there’s a number of informative snippets that can be found called hint markers. Each of these earns you ten hero points, and you get to hear Bruce Campbell read off whatever information there is, often making jokes.

At one point, he says that, if you find every single hint marker, he’ll say something different for each of them. If you follow through and find them all, Bruce Campbell says exactly what he said he would. Something different.

The King of All Cosmos says “We’re rather impressed. Such a pointless excerise…"

7We Love Katamari

So You Collected A Million Roses

This cute game is a completionist’s dream, as you play this little Prince attempting tocollectall sorts of objects into a big ball. Missions in We Love Katamari have you collecting all sorts of stuff for your father, The King of All Cosmos, and one of the most tedious of these tasks is to collect 1,000,000 roses.

Upon doing this, your father first states that he’s impressed, only to follow that up by calling it a “pointless exercise.” Even though youarerewarded for completing this task, it’s still a backhanded compliment. Especially coming from the person who asked you to do it in the first place!

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth achivment reads 1,000,000 percent: Just Stop! with a drawing of a stop sign.

6The Binding Of Issac: Rebirth

Just Stop

You know you might need to take a short break when the game starts pleading with you to stop playing. The description of the achievement titled “Just Stop” asks you to “collect every item in the game, unlock all secrets and endings, and complete the bestiary.” At which point The Binding of Issac: Rebirth decides that was too much to ask.

This isn’t the only joke in the game, but it’s one that only the truly committed will find. While this is clearly implying you’ve spent a little too much time playing, it’s also kind of satisfying to make the game beg you for mercy.

You Did It For The Trophy

Unfortunately for completionists everywhere, there are always going to be games that include some achievements that function as jokes. InYakuza 0, if you want to unlock every single achievement, it will mean putting this embarrassing addition in your collection.

While the game sees you taking actual criminal actions, it also takes a minute to poke fun at you if you choose to have Kiryu take a break from his investigations to watch an adult video. What sets this achievement apart from others like it is the title’s self-awareness. Anticipating the completionist’s defense, the award is cheekily titled ‘…I did it for the trophy.’

Far Cry 6 Miami Beach Ending

4Far Cry 6

What Were You Hoping To Find Across The Ocean?

One of the basics you learn early in playing games is that there are a lot of hidden treasures tucked away at the farthest reaches of open-world games. This incentivizes you to try to go as far as possible in search of discovering something new. With this in mind,Far Cry 6gives you that option in the form of keys to a boat to Miami. If you’re a completionist, you might be tempted to see where that takes you.

If you use them, the gamedoeslet you leave the island and head off to Miami. When you do this, the game ends. There’s a three-month time skip that leads to a cinematic where you’re relaxing on the beach as the newscaster announces the defeat of the Libertads, clearly designed to make you feel guilty for getting this secret ending.

Breath of the Wild Hestu’s Gift

3The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

We Both Know You OnlyNeeded441 Of Those Seeds

There are multiple challenges inBreath of the Wildthat will take completionists a hot minute to get all the way through, like finding and completing all the shrines and finding all the Korok seeds. There are 120 shrines in the game, and you get the classic Link outfit complete with floppy cap.

There are also900Korok seeds in the game, and you get… well. The reward for going through all that trouble is a literal pile of poop. And it doesn’t even do anything.

2Undertale

Do You Think You’re Above Consequences?

This indie game famously remembers the actions that you took in past runs, and it uses them to influence your experiences moving forward. If you truly want to experience everythingUndertalehas to offer, you’re going to have to eventually take the genocide route. That means killing every single living thing in the game.

Where the game is unique, however, is that it won’t let you simply take this route without any consequences in your replays. As part of the game’s message about violence, getting this ending one time will taint all endings after: in other words, not letting you get away with it.

Stanley Parable Broom Closet

1The Stanley Parable

Did You Get The Broom Closet Ending?

The Stanley Parabletrolls you for just about everything you can do in the game, and completionists aren’t safe. In fact, they’re the main target of this game’s mockery. Because the game has so many endings, you’d think you’d be forgiven for trying to get them all. The near omnipresent narrator attempting to guide your experience, however, disagrees.

The more you go off the path he’s set looking to get every ending, the more frustrated he becomes. For example, if you spend long enough in a broom closet in search of hearing every scrap of dialogue possible, he eventually sarcastically gives you a fake ending.
