The gameplay trailer forFortniteChapter 5, Season 2 has confirmed that it’ll introduce the ability to fly around the map using the Icarus' Wings mythical.
Chapter 5, Season 1 has felt like a particularly long season of Fortnite, but that finally changes today as we move into the new season, which has previously been confirmed to be themed around Greek mythology. Of course,a new season of Fortnite wouldn’t be complete without some big gameplay change, and that’s exactly what we’re getting.
Earlier this week,it was hinted that Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2 would be introducing a new type of movement to The Island, which was speculated to be flying after some hints from Epic Games' developers.Thanks to the gameplay trailer for the season that was just released, that has been confirmed to be the case, although it works a little differently than some had speculated.
During the trailer, we get a glimpse of several new Greek-god-themed powers, including the ability to fly through the Wings of Icarus mythical pickup.This new item can be found across the Island and used to"soar through the skies and divebomb your foes below". Of course, anyone who knows anything about Icarus will know he ended up flying too close to the sun, something that’s referenced with the item only allowing you to fly for short bursts of time before making you crash land.
Although flying is the highlight of the new features coming to Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2, it isn’t the only thing. The blog post also reveals that a new weapon is coming later in the season - the Chain of Hades. As teased in the cinematic trailer, this new melee weapon will let you drag enemies around and attack them.
Aside from the Wings of Icarus and Chains of Hades,Myths and Mortals will also introduce several new mythic weaponsthat are themed after the Greek gods, including Zeus' Thunderbolts, a Huntress DMR based around Artemis, Cerberus' Gatekeeper Shotgun, and Hades' Harbinger SMG, which can all be obtained by defeating their respective gods on the map.
We’ll also be getting two new weapon mods this season - the Thermal Scope and Speedgrip, which let you see enemies' heat signatures and increase your movement speed while aiming.
