Considering how mysterious and uncertain parts of Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s plot were,we all knew that the same thing was going to happen with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, even with it tackling some of the series' most infamous scenes. It’s only been just over a month since the game launched, but there are a ton of questions and theories surrounding it,especially when it comes tothatmoment.

Major spoilers for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth below. Don’t keep reading if you’re wary of spoilers.

We’ve known for some time that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be adapting Aerith’s infamous death scene from the original game and likely doing something different with it. That’s exactly what happened as,although Aerith appeared to die in the main universe, it seems as if Cloud actually managed to save her in another, giving us the ‘best’ of both worlds. If he’s not hallucinating, that is.

Aerith’s Fate In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Uncertain

Luckily for us, the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Ultimania, which collects a ton of unrevealed information and developer comments into one book, has just released in Japan andTwitter user aitaikimochi has already started translating some of the biggest details. Of course, that also includes discussions surrounding what happened to Aerith, which might not be as final as we all thought.

Based on the comments within the Ultimania, aitaikimochi summarises that it’s hard to tell if Aerith actually lived or died, and that there are different interpretations of the events. The only thing that is confirmed is that the party sees something completely different to Cloud, which explains why everyone but him has full Limit Breaks when they start the battle.

The Ultimania also confirms that Rebirth shows multiple different universes throughout the game, which will seemingly tie into whether Aerith survives or not.

The Ultimania suggests that the Aerith who ends up helping Cloud during the battle could be from the Lifestream, a hallucination made by Cloud, or just a version of her who is alive and survived the events. In short, we really don’t know what’s happened to Aerith, which seems purposeful considering the game drowns out what Cloud says to her when he’s holding her body.

Put simply, if you’re upset about what happened to Aerith in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, then it might be worth holding out hope until the third game in the trilogy, as it’s clear that her fate isn’t quite as decided as we all thought.
