Summary
Fallout 4’s latest update was in the works for a while and originally planned to go live last year. So, when it eventually launched just after the hype from the TV show adaptation, it was a big deal - although not the best deal out there for those playing withmods.
Since the update changes so much, especially on console, modded playthroughs will have to be put on pause until the mod authors can update their creations. Now, it looks like a bunch of players on PC can’t wait that long, as one of the most popular Fallout 4 mods this week removes the update from the game files entirely, letting you play with mods once more.

How To Remove The Fallout 4 Update On PC
Fallout 4 DowngraderfromNexus Modsuser zerratar does exactly what the name suggests, removing all of the improvements made in the latest Fallout 4 update. With the installation bringing you back to the last version of Fallout 4, any mods you have set up should start working again, letting you continue if you were right in the middle of a playthrough.
The downgrader dropped on Nexus Mods yesterday and has already been installed more than 10,000 times. This isn’t too surprising, asBetheda’s update not only broke mods butalso introduced bugs and performance issues. It seems to have fared a little better on console, but speaking from experience onPlayStation 5, it does feel like the game is crashing more than before.
Unfortunately, Bethesda probably couldn’t have picked a worse time to drop a huge update to Fallout 4. As we reported previously,Fallout 4 mods reached new heights in popularityafter the TV dropped, with its Nexus Mods page having its busiest day on record. The same was true forFallout: New Vegas, as fans flock back to the games after seeing the wasteland brought to life in the show. In fact, Fallout modding was so popular that itcaused issues for Nexus Mods, with the site occasionally inaccessible due to the demand.
At the very least, the update is out of the way now, so fans can get to work on making their mods compatible with the new patch. The Fallout: London team will be among them, as they had todelay their huge Fallout 4 conversion projectdue to the update. It’s now set to launch “as soon as humanly possible”, but we’re yet to receive a new release window.
