Whether it’s coming from consumables like foods and potions, equipment and accessories, buff stations, or something else, it’s probably no secret to you thatTerrariahas an incredible catalog of buffs to offer. To be fair, though, you need at least some of them, especially for thetoughest eventsor boss fights.

Thankfully, despite such an overwhelming list of positive effects, there are only six buff stations in the game, which is much easier to focus on. Plus, these buffs won’t force you to keep a constant supply of consumables, or switch out currently equipped accessories. Just plop down the station, activate it, and go about your business.

While you may place and activate these helpful buff stations wherever you’d like, they are particularly useful when grouped together near important boss fights, so that you can refresh your buffs mid-combat if needed. All info is based on the PC version of the game, but may be applicable to other ports of the game.

6Ammo Box

How To Obtain

You can buy an Ammo Box from the Traveling Merchant for 15 gold, or for ten gold from the Arms Dealer if you’ve reached Hardmode.

Buff Effect

Once activated, the Ammo Box offers a one in five chance to not consume arrows or ammunition every time you shoot with a ranged weapon. The buff is lost if you die.

General Tips

Since this buff station’s preservative effects effectively make any ammunition or arrows you craft last longer, you should have this buff active at all times if you’re using a ranged build. Just remember to reactivate it every time you die.

5Bewitching Table

A Bewitching Table can either be found as a natural spawn in the Dungeon, or bought from the Witch Doctor for ten gold if the Wizard has moved into suitable housing.

Once activated, the Bewitching Table increases your max number of summons. The buff is lost if you die.

While one extra summon isn’t typically going to make a huge difference, it’s worth using frequently, even if you’re not focusing on a summon build; everyone benefits from extra damage, and it’s especially needed if you’re playing on harder difficulties.

4Crystal Ball

you’re able to buy a Crystal Ball from the Wizard for ten gold.

Once activated, the Crystal Ball offers four effects: slightly lower mana costs, and increases to maximum mana, magic damage, and critical strike chance. The buff is lost if you die.

While the bonuses may seem largely marginal, the Crystal Ball is incredibly powerful for magic builds. Paired with other mana-conserving consumables or equipment, all those little percentages and values really start to add up, so fork over that gold and don’t sleep on this buff station.

3Sharpening Station

A Sharpening Station can be found naturally in the Underground Jungle, or bought from the Merchant for ten gold in Hardmode.

Once activated, the Sharpening Station will increase your armor penetration by 12. The buff is lost if you die.

The Sharpening Station is a must for any melee-focused build. Paired with other equipment, like the Shark Tooth Necklace or Stinger Necklace, you’re able to achieve armor penetration values of 17 or higher. Just… make sure you’re holding a melee weapon when activating this station, otherwise it won’t work.

2War Table

A War Table can only be obtained from Dark Mages as a somewhat rare drop during an Old One’s Army event.

Once activated, the War Table allows you to have an extra sentry. The buff is lost if you die.

The War Table is largely for boss fights and summoner builds, since sentry summons tend to be limited in terms of movement, and thus, versatility. If you’re fighting a boss that doesn’t move around too much, like Golem, or a boss that summons enemies, likeQueen Slimefor example, this buff station will help.

1Slice Of Cake

The Slice of Cake can only be obtained from the Party Girl, so long as you’re the first one to talk to her during a naturally-occurring party.

Once activated, the Slice of Cake offers a 20 percent increase to your mining and movement speed for two minutes.

The Slice of Cake can be used in two main ways. Offensively, you may use it tohave a better fighting chance against particularly tough enemies, since the increased movement speed reduces your chances of being hit. Otherwise, it’s great to bring along for exploration, caving, and mining; just plop it down when you need to and pick it back up.
