Elden Ringfans are sharing their biggest disappointments about the game, from Gideon’s hammer being unable to cast spells to Melina being absent for most of the story.
As proven by all of the rabid excitement surrounding Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring is unarguably one of the most beloved and popular games of this console generation. That being said,even with such a dedicated communityandsome of the highest review scores from a FromSoftware game, it isn’t aperfectgame and did disappoint fans in some ways.
As of the time of writing, the most upvoted comment on the thread is a few smaller disappointments from theswillmerchant, who said they weren’t happy that Gideon’s hammer can’t cast spells, which many players thought would sorceries and incantations, and that the Dragon Greatclaw can’t fling red lightning, which makes a middling weapon even more of a letdown.
For a more story-focused disappointment, Redditor Y2G13 pointed out that they were disappointed by Melina, seemingly one of the most important characters in the game, is absent for most of the game and that her lore is likely to remain untold. That goes for Torrent as well, as another comment points out that you don’t really find anything out about the pair of them.
Hopefully that’s something that Shadow of the Erdtree is going to fix,as we already know that it’s going to shine some light on Miquella.
Another popular disappointment comes from Redditor arcanevulper, who pointed out that armour tailoring is done in “one of the most unsatisfying ways ever” and really only lets you choose between having a cape and hood or not, without any option to tint clothing. Well, there are mods for that, but there’s nothing officially in the game.
Perhaps my favourite of all the mentioned disappointments comes from ProfessorPixelmon, who points out that Vyke, who is featured in the game’s key art and is practically a mascot for Elden Ring,is relegated to only being an invader and an optional boss that can be completely skipped. Fuzzy-Practice-6119 put it best - “Vike deserved a long winding questline that ends up with a spectacular boss fight in the Mountaintops”.
