And, if you think this only applies to the main story, then you’re simply wrong, as many of the game’s side quests have deep and personal moments that make you take a step back, reflect on how far you’ve come, and the impact you and your party are making in the world, which is precisely what you get during the Dreaming of Blue Skies side quest!
Dreaming Of Blue Skies Overview
First things first, to take on theDreaming of Blue Skiesside quest, you will have to firstclear the ‘When Words Won’t Do’ side quest,which will give you access to theCrow’s Nest.Once you’ve done that, headpast Toby and up the winding rampways to Condor Hill,where you will findColin and a Bird Watcherat the overlook.
Speak to Colin,the elderly gentleman in the wheelchair, to hear hisrequest to see the Condorone last time.Accept his requestto kickstart the questline, having youfind a suitable bait to lure the Condorout to Condor Hill for Colin. The section below will go over all the steps needed to secure the bait and get Colin his wish once and for all!
Dreaming Of Blue Skies Walkthrough
After accepting theDreaming of Blue Skiesside quest from Colin, you will be tasked tofind suitable baitto successfullygrab the Condor’s attention, bringing it to Condor Hillfor Colin to see one last time. As such, Colin will point you toward the Hunting Spot to look for a cow.
Step One: The Hunting Spot
Your first step, as outlined above, will be tohead to the Hunting Spotto track down a cow. You can find this area by headingjust south of the Mogstool near the pathway leading to the Crow’s Nest.Once you’re near the cow, you will be instructed to sneak up on it to capture it.
However,once you get anywhere near it, the cow will take off runningthrough a narrow pathway, through the forest, out of sight and out of mind, off to a tremendous start.
Step Two: Tracking The Cow
After your cow makes a break for it,call your ChocobowithR1and hop aboard it, thenbegin sniffing the areaby holdingUpon theD-Pad.Once your Chocobo catches onto its scent, it’s off to the races to find it. Simplyfollow the scent trailto reach it!
Step Three: Combat
While the cow is at the end of the scent trail, so arethree Ignilsisks,pesky little monsters that shouldn’t pose too much of an issue for you. These monsters areweak to Blizzardandbecome Pressured and Staggered easily when hit with Blizzard-based Magic and attacks.
After dispatching them quickly, yourcow will suddenly be snatched away by a fierce Mystic Dragonand taken far away from where you are. You, or the cow, cannot seem to catch a break, huh?
Step Four: Tracking The Mystic Dragon
Call your Chocoboto your side yet again and mount it tobegin sniffing the ground where the Mystic Dragon stole your cowto have itlatch onto its scent,thenfollow the scent trail all the way to a secluded and dank cave.As you begin to push further into the cave, your Chocobo will get scared, having you walk the rest of the way into the cave.
Step Five: Fighting The Mystic Dragon
Once inside the cave, you will see theMystic Dragonattempting to feast on the Condor’s bait, forcing you to enter combat with it. Since this is a rare enemy, you likely won’t face it again anytime soon, so westrongly urge you to use Assesson it for Chadley.
This fight can be a bit rough if you don’t know what you’re in for, butexploiting its Weaknesses and hitting it with heavy-hitting attackswill give it a run for its money, allowing you to end the fight pretty convincingly. You can learn more about it in the table below!
How To Stagger
Accumulating enough damage will eventually significantly Pressure the Mystic Dragon. However, once it is Pressured, it will soar high into the air, making it harder to attack.
Step Six: Choosing Your Bait
Upondefeating the Mystic Dragon,you will be presented with anoption to choose its flesh, the cow’s meat, or Peculiar Greensas yourchoice of bait.No matter which one you choose, you will get to complete the quest, but theend result will be slightly different.The table below will provide more information on which option is the best!

Step Seven: Quest Completed
Finally, with yourbait of choicein hand -preferably the Cow Meat- you canfast-travel back to Condor Hillandinteract with Colinonce more. Upon doing this, you will getone last cutscene,having the Condor appear in front of you after a nice moment between Cloud and Tifa. You will also get thefollowing rewards:
