The vast continent of Fevrith is split up into five countries: Cornia, Drakenhold, Elheim, Bastorias, and Albion.Unicorn Overlordfancies itself as something of an open world game, and thus allows you to pick between Drakenhold and Elheim as your second destination after completing a certain important battle in Cornia.

There are vast differences between Drakenhold and Elheim as a second destination - in fact, there seems to be a very much intended first choice. However, given that youdohave the option to pick either one, it’s worth examining the advantages and disadvantages of each nation.

Drakenhold Vs. Elheim

The important thing to keep in mind here is that no matter which nation you go to first, you can return to Cornia and even explore the alternative nation at any point- you are not committed to completing a certain chain of quests in one nation before pursuing the other. That said, there are some things to keep in mind:

You may think this basically forces you to pick Drakenhold, despite what the game says, but this is not so - The Resistance Lives On is unique in that it provides you with aton of siege weapons that allow you to breeze through the majority of the challengesthe stage presents you. This will boost the levels of the units using the siege weapons considerably fast, bridging the level gap quickly. This means you can far more comfortably take on the challenges that Elheim presents before even touching Drakenhold.

On the flipside, thanks to Elheim being intended as the third region you go to, you’re not only encountering higher levels, you’re also encounteringpromoted units. You cannot promote your own units until you reachRenown Rank B, which will be a significant while away if you head straight to Elheim from The Princess, Abducted. It’s for this reason specifically thatwe recommend not venturing too far into Elheim before retreating and taking on Drakenhold’s challenges instead.

Another reason we recommend Drakenhold over Elheim is theunitsyou get to recruit there. While both regions have plenty of great units, you get some top-tier characters joining you very quickly in Drakenhold. Highlights includeVirginia and Leah(who join immediately after The Battle for Mier),Berengaria, andAramis.

The elves of Elheim are useful but usually serve a more supporting role, which is better when the units they’re supporting are beefed up from their experiences in Drakenhold.

To conclude,we recommend heading to Elheim only briefly- The Resistance Lives On can give you asignificant boost in levelsvery quickly, which will help you much on your journey through Drakenhold. Once you’ve completed this, pursuing the quests in Drakenhold will take you all the way to level 18, or higher if you’re a completionist about it. This, in turn, will make Elheim a breeze when you return.
