More than 20 years after the original game changed the way many of us see video games,Square EnixrevivedFinal Fantasy 7via the first part of its remake. Now the game is bigger than ever before as the second installment in the remake trilogy,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has taken the world by storm. Leaving Midgar and traversing the fictional world beyond, Draculabyte has celebrated Rebirth’s success by curating a range of t-shirts that mash-up the game’s characters with iconic metal bands.
Sephiroth may well be the most metal character in all of video games, so it makes sense that the Rebirth villain makes multiple appearances inFinal Fantasy 7’s Draculabyte collection. In what might be my favorite design in the range, Draculabyte hastaken the image of Cloud bearing down on Sephiroth with his Buster Swordhigh above his head, Final Fantasy written above them in blue but in the same font as Black Sabbath use for the band’s logo. It and all of the other t-shirts in the collection cost $19.99 each.
The Black Sabbath font is used frequently in the collection, alsofeatured on a t-shirt above Cloud astride his motorcycle, as well asVivi Ornitier from Final Fantasy 9. Other band fonts used for the collection include Judas Priest and Ghost whose logo perfectly translates to Cloud. Almost so much that anyone glancing at it might assume it still says Ghost until noticing there’s one guy with a big sword standing underneath it rather than a quirkily dressed band.
Def Leppard’s logo has been used for a Red XIII design, and of course,Vincent Valentine’s t-shirtmakes him look like an animated member of the Welsh metalcore band, Bullet for my Valentine. If your fandom extends to Kingdom Hearts, and if you like Final Fantasy 7 then it probably does, Draculabytes also hasa t-shirt with Sora, Goofy, and Donald Duck in place of Metallica, Sora’s keyblade in place of a guitar.
Final Fantasy 7 fans continue to be flooded with merch options should they want to continue their Rebirth journey, or supplement it if you’re still not done with that journey like me.Cloud’s Static Art figureis back in stock, andhis and Tifa’s Bring Arts figureshave also been re-released with the added bonus of Square ditching their NFTs. There’s alsoa Materia hunting boardgame releasing this summer set in Remake’s Midgar which you may pre-order now.
