When the dark hour arrives inPersona 3 Reloadat midnight, you’ll be able to visit Tartarus, a tower that takes the place of Gekkoukan High School during that period. Your goal is to explore and make your way to the upper levels of Tartarus, fighting Shadows as you do so.
The floors of Tartarus are divided into several blocks, and the first block you’ll be exploring is Thebel. This includes the first 22 floors of the tower. Thebel will be your first encounter with various low-level Shadows, and your first journey through the block will be guided by Mitsuru.
How To Enter Tartarus
On April 20, Mitsuru and Akihiko will take you, Yukari, and Junpei on yourfirst trip to Tartarus. Your first exploration of Tartarus will be guided by Mitsuru so you can grasp thebasics of fighting the Shadowsandnavigating the tower.
After your first visit, you’ll be able to travel to Tartarusby talking to Mitsuru in the dorm. You can find her inthelobbyor inthe Command Room on the fourth floor.
In order to organize a trip to Tartarus for the evening, select the option"Let’s go to Tartarus.“when you speak to Mitsuru.
A visit to Tartaruswill take up the activity slot for the evening, so make sure you’ve made your preparations for your exploration!
You’ll only be able to go to Tartarus if Mitsuru is available for the evening, somake sure you have enough timeto take your trips during the month.
Thebel Block One Shadows
As you reach the higher floors of Tartarus, the Shadowswill also increase in strength. In order to defeat them with ease, it helps to know theirweaknesses and resistances.
Each Shadow will react to various attack types differently. You’ll need to deal thecorrect type of damageif you want to knock them down and possibly execute anAll-Out Attack.

Some Shadows are more powerful and will stay in anarena-like section of a floor. These are calledGatekeepersand serve asmini-bossesyou must defeat in order toreach the next sectionsof the block.

When an attack is labeled"Weak"in the Shadow’s affinities, that means that the attackwill knock them down. When an attack is marked as"Resist”, the Shadow will takereduced damage from it.
The Shadows in the first block of Tartarus aresimple to deal with,even at a low level, and they’ll serve astutorial Shadowsas you’re introduced to the battle mechanics in Tartarus.
That being said, it’s a good chance to really explore andcollect as many materials and as much EXPas you can as you face these low-level Shadows.
Thebel Block One Overview
The first block of Tartarus you’ll find yourself in isThebel. This consists of thefirst twenty-two floorsof the tower. Throughout the block, you’ll encounter avariety of Shadows, including a few mini-bosses.

What Personas Can You Draw In Thebel Block One
After finishing a battle, you may trigger aShuffle, which will allow you todraw a card as a reward. One card that can be drawn is aPersona card.
AShufflecan also be triggered byending a battle using an All-Out attack.
When a Persona card is drawn, you mayadd that Personato your arsenal. If you already have the Persona drawn, you’ll justgain EXP for that Persona’s Arcana.
Chariot
It’s recommended that youcollect Personas from all Arcanasfrom Thebel as early as possible.
These will benefit you as you build yoursocial links, as having the particular Arcana related to the social link during interactions willhelp those links grow.
You canregisterthe Personas you find at theVelvet Room. If you register a Persona you’ve already registered before, you’ll be given the option to register itat the higher level.
If you’re planning on using that particular Persona primarily forfusion, it’s advisable that youdon’t register it at the higher levelbecause it will bemore expensive to summonit the higher its level.
How To Exit Tartarus
Ateleportercan be used tohead back to the first floorof Tartarus, if you find one on your floor.
Not all floors have teleporters, so make sure you still have enough HP and SP or recovery items if you decide to proceed past a teleporter during your exploration.
Floors withGatekeeperswill always have teleporters, so you can safely savebefore you engage in battle.
Thetop floors of each blockwill also have teleporters that you can use to head backto the first floor.
The top floor of Thebel is the22nd, and when you reach floor 22 of Thebel in Tartarus,you’ll find the path to the staircase blocked. You won’t be able to proceed furtheruntil a later date.
Take theteleporterback to the first floor, thenmake your way to the tower’s entrancein order to exit. Mitsuru will ask if you’d like to leave.Respond that you want to leave, and you’ll be sent back to the dorm.
Take note thatexiting Tartarus will immediately end that night. You’ll immediately wake up the following day after you agree to leave the tower.
Tips For Exploring Thebel
Thebel is the only block you’ll have of Tartarus to explore fortheentirety of April and the first few days of May.
That being said, you should maximize the time spent here bygetting as much EXP, items, money, and Personasas you can.
You can easily farm the Shadows there andincrease your levelfor an easier experience when thenext block of Tartarus unlocks.
If you’re concerned about losing SP, just useRush or melee attackson Shadows regardless of their weaknesses when you’re strong enough to defeat them without using your Persona.
It should be noted, however, that you shouldlimit the days you spend in Tartarus. you’re able to easilyspend a longer time in Thebel for one eveningin order to farm the Shadows and treasure chests, because it’s not too difficult to explore.
Don’t be afraid to use yourHP and SP restoration itemsthis early. You’ll be able to buy more with the money you earn, and you’ll definitely find more of them as you explore.
