A big part ofARK: Survival Ascendedis going to be taming and riding all sorts of dinosaurs and primeval creatures. It’s possible to go at it alone or with friends, but help from creatures can make it a little less lonely, and they can help you out with all sorts of tasks around The Island.
Creatures help you with surviving in the wild, fighting off wild creatures and other players, and harvesting materials like Wood or Oil. Some, like the round, rolling Doedicurus, are even better at harvesting certain things like Stone than tools, and have weight reductions for carrying them.

Where To Find Doedicurus
Doedicurus aremainly found in the upper half of The Island, especially in theRedwood Forest, and around thetwo large mountains in the upper centerof the map.
They’reuncommon to semi-rare spawnsin their given areas, and as prey animals, they’llfrequently get attacked by carnivoreslike Raptors and Saberooths, so you may end up finding most of them already in their defensive curl.

You canuse a flying mountlike anArgentavisorTapejaratoscout out potential Doedicurus to tameand clear away carnivores near it.
How To Knock Out A Doedicurus
Taming a Doedicurusneeds afew things to verify it goes well, and your future tame doesn’t end up as a wild dinosaur’s meal:
Allosaurus and T. Rexcan alsospawnin the same places as some Doedicurus, but theyaren’t as commonas the other creatures that you’ll have to fight again.

Doedicurus themselvesaren’t too dangerousunless theymanage to whack you off the side of a mountain, but they tend tospawn in the mountainous regionsof The Islandalongside a variety of group-based carnivores, and the occasional dangerous solo hunters like Rexes.
When youfind a Doedicurus, the first thing you’ll want to do iskill any carnivores in the area, and make sure youharvest their bodies.

You’ll also want totake out any other Doedicurusas well, asattacking one will aggro any othersonto you.
Dead creature bodies attract Argentavisto come and feast on them, soalways harvest bodies, especially if you’re taming a creature, toreduce the chances of a pack of Argentavis coming downto attack you.

From there, get to a good position andstart hitting the Doedicurus in the headwith Tranquilizer Darts, as thisinflicts the most torpor per shotand will knock it out quicker.
Due to itsslow speed, you canevade most of its attacks, butwatch out for its wide-range tail swingattack.
Doedicurus arefairly persistentas well, and you canlead them into a pre-built taming enclosurefor a safer tame, such as asmall Stone housemadewith three walls and a single door.
You can alsouse Tranq Arrowsto knock it out, but you run therisk of not knocking outthe Doedicurusbefore it uses its defensive curlability, which will make the tame tougher and take longer.
When aDoedicurus' HP gets too low, it willcurl up into a ball, and both thedamage and torporit takes will bereduced by 90 percent.
If the Doedicurus curls up, you can eitherattempt to brute force the tameif you’reusing Tranquilizer Darts, or you’ll need towait for it to uncurl, so it can continue to take full damage.
You can alsoknock out multiple Doedicurusat once with anEquus with high damageand HP with itstorpor-inducing back-kickattack.
Once the Doedicurus is unconscious, you’ll want tomake sure and protect itif you haven’t already led it into a pre-built taming pen, becauseunprotected tames in the mountains are a free mealfor any wild creatures, especially Sabertooths or Hyaenodon.
You can eithersurround the Doedicuruswith severallayers of Wooden Spikeswith enough room to get over to it yourself, oruse any type of fence foundations and Stone wallsto build a box around your future tame.
How To Tame A Doedicurus
Doedicurusaccept a variety of foodfor their taming, but you’ll want touse either Regular Kibbleorcrops such as Rockarrotsand Citronal to tame them.
You’ll want touse the best foodpossible for Doedicurus, so theirTaming Effectiveness stays high.
Like with your Narcotics and ammo, you’ll want tobring a decent supply of extra taming foodsas Doedicurus cantake a long time to tame, especially at higher levels, even with increased Taming Speed on a server.
Doedicurus Uses
The Doedicurus' main job is being anexcellent Stone collector. Theirwide tail-swingattack candestroy multiple rocksat once, and they also have a massive75 percent weight reductionfor Stone.
Doedicurus are also one of the few creatures that canautomatically harvest itemsif you haveWandering Enabledor youmove them in range of rocks, then get offof them.
Doedicurus willonly harvestup to50 percent of their maximum weightif you leave them toautomatically harvest Stone.
