The combat system inGenshin Impactrevolves around forming a team of four characters, each with their own different element and unique playstyle. When combined, these elements will trigger interesting and powerful Elemental Reactions, which not only help you in battle, but also allow for a variety of gameplay and teambuilding mechanics.
With the seven elements of the game, there are currently 14 different elemental combinations that you may trigger, with some even having their own sub-reactions. Knowing which teams suit your style and which characters are the best options for your desired Elemental Reactions will help you make the most out of your Genshin Impact experience.

Best Teams For Amplifying Reactions
Amplifying Reactions don’t deal DMG on their own. Instead, they multiply the DMG of the attack that triggered the reaction, depending on which element was able to trigger it.
The infamous Vaporize and Melt reactions fall under this category. Through these reactions, you’re able to double your characters’ DMG, but you’ll need consistent Elemental Application because triggering these reactions will either reduce or completely remove the existing Elemental Aura on enemies, depending on which elements were applied.

Aside from Elemental Mastery, the DMG from Amplifying Reactions still scales with other stats of the character who triggers them, such as ATK, Elemental DMG Bonus, and CRIT, so it’s important to have a balance of these stats to maximize your DMG.
Best Teams For Vaporize
When a Hydro attack triggers Vaporize on enemies affected by Pyro, its DMG will be multiplied by two. However, the Pyro aura on the enemies will be completely removed, requiring you to reapply Pyro to trigger another Vaporize Reaction.
Meanwhile, when a Pyro attack triggers Vaporize on enemies affected by Hydro, its DMG will only be multiplied by 1.5, but some of the Hydro aura will still remain, allowing it to enable another instance of Vaporize before needing to be reapplied.

Best Teams For Melt
When a Pyro attack triggers Melt on enemies affected by Cryo, its DMG will be multiplied by two. However, the Cryo aura on the enemies will be completely removed, requiring you to reapply Cryo to trigger another Melt Reaction.
Meanwhile, when a Cryo attack triggers Melt on enemies affected by Pyro, its DMG will only be multiplied by 1.5, but some of the Pyro aura will still remain, allowing it to enable another instance of Melt before needing to be reapplied.

Best Teams For Transformative Reactions
Transformative Reactions deal DMG on their own as a product of two elements coming into contact with each other. These reactions cannot deal CRIT Hits, and thus only scale with your characters’ Elemental Mastery and Level.
Reactions under this category include Overloaded, Shattered, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, Swirl, Burning, Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon, as well as non-damaging but defensive Elemental Reactions such as Frozen and Crystallize. These serve as accessible sources of DMG especially during early stages of the game, but are also useful later down the line.

Best Teams For Catalyze/Quicken
Catalyze occurs when an enemy is affected by both Dendro and Electro. This reactions doesn’t deal DMG, but applies the Quicken status to them. While the status is active, applying Dendro or Electro to enemies will trigger the Spread or Aggravate reactions respectively, increasing their DMG.
Unlike Vaporize and Melt, Spread and Aggravate will add a flat amount of DMG to the attacks that trigger them instead of multiplying their DMG. Additionally, these reactions won’t remove the existing elemental aura on the enemy, thus not needing to reapply the elements involved to trigger another reaction.
Best Teams For Aggravate
Best Teams For Swirl And Mono-Elements
Swirl occurs when Anemo comes into contact with an enemy already affected by Pyro, Cryo, Hydro or Electro. This reaction deals a separate instance of AOE Elemental DMG of the non-Anemo element involved, and spreads that element to nearby enemies.
Aside from its DMG, this reaction’s strength comes the Viridescent Venerer set. With this artifact set, triggering Swirl reactions will reduce the enemies’ Elemental RES from the element swirled. As such, these teams focus on increasing the DMG of one specific element through triggering Swirl with a Viridescent Venerer support.

Best Non-Reaction Teams
Despite Elemental Reactions being a key factor in Genshin Impact’s combat, there are also some character who don’t rely on Elemental Reactions to add a different gameplay experience. These characters rely solely on their pure Elemental DMG and high DMG multipliers.
Anemo and Geo are elements that are mostly used to support other elements. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t shine on their own. Even without Elemental Reactions, the sheer power of these teams alone is enough to keep up with other teams.
