Summary

Shimmer is a rare liquidinTerrariathat generates only once upon world creation. It can be found in a tiny biome called the Aether, which always spawns underground on the same half of the world that contains a Jungle biome. Upon throwing items into Shimmer, they’re transformed into different items; it’s essentially an alchemic process.

While some item transformations are relatively benign or circular, like turning Titanium ore into Adamantite Ore, or Armor Polish into Vitamins and vice versa, there are other transformations that are incredibly powerful, and in some cases, permanently beneficial. If you don’t want to waste time throwing random items into Shimmer, we’ve got you covered.

8Turning Fruit Into Ambrosia

The Sweet Taste Of Improved Quality-Of-Life Buffs

If you ever come across a fruit, like an Apple from a Forest biome or a Coconut from the Ocean biome, you can use Shimmer to transform it into Ambrosia. This provides a one-time, permanent buff to mining speed, tile placement speed, and wall placement speed.

Although these speeds only increase by a margin of five percent, every little bit counts. Also, if you have extra fruit laying around, which typically sells for 20 silver, you can change it all into Ambrosia, which sells for 50 silver, to turn a nice profit.

7Turning A Gold Worm Into A Gummy Worm

Who Knew Gummy Worms Made You Better At Fishing?

It’s tempting to use a Gold Worm as fishing bait when you get your hands on one since it provides 50 percent bait power. However, you should really hold on to the first one you get, since it can be transformed into a Gummy Worm.

Unlike in real life, eating a Gummy Worm in-game provides a permanent boost to your fishing power by three. It’s not a very noticeable buff, of course, but since fishing power changes constantly, depending on your gear, moon phases, and other variables, it’s nice to have a baseline increase.

Approaching The Travelling Merchant With A Shotgun

6Turning The Peddler’s Hat Into The Peddler’s Satchel

Forcibly Increasing The Traveling Merchant’s Stock

The number of goods the Traveling Merchant happens to be selling whenever he arrives varies, most commonly landing on five to six items per visit. With the Peddler’s Satchel, you’ll be able to permanently increase the number of items this merchant sells by a value of one.

If you happen to buy things from the Traveling Merchant often, or you’re looking for a specific, rare item from him, like the Gatligator or Angel Halo, throwing the first Peddler’s Hat you find into a pool of Shimmer is advised.

5Turning A Life Crystal Into A Vital Crystal

Permanently Increased Life Regeneration Is Cool

Life Crystals are, obviously, vital for every character, regardless of class, since they increase your maximum health by 20 points, up until you reach a total of 400 health. Once you’ve used 15 of these crystals, they become largely useless.

If you have an extra Life Crystal, though, you can transform it into a Vital Crystal, which permanently increases your health regeneration by 20 percent. While this boost is great for everyone, you’d likely see most benefitas a melee or tank buildusing defensive accessories and buffs.

4Turning A Mana Crystal Into An Arcane Crystal

Permanently Increased Mana Regeneration Is Also Cool

While ultimately most beneficial for magic-based builds, turning a Mana Crystal into an Arcane Crystal is a nice and easy way to permanently boost your mana regeneration. Although, it might not increase in the way you’d expect.

The way the Arcane Crystal works is it reduces the time it takes for your mana to start regenerating after expending mana by five percent. The thing is, this effect is movement based, so in practical terms, this permanent buff is only half as effective if you’re standing still.

A Life Fruit Growing In The Jungle Biome

3Turning Life Fruit Into An Aegis Fruit

Free, Added Defense Is Always Welcome

If you’re farming Life Fruit in the Jungle biome to get up to 500 max health, make sure you grab at least one more than you’d typically need, since you can transform one into an Aegis Fruit, which permanently increases your defense by a value of four.

Aside from the obvious benefit of raising your base defence value permanently, without the aid of accessories, gear, or temporary buffs, you could also reroll one of the enchants on your accessories for movement speed, critical strike chance, or something other than defense.

2Turning The Clentaminator Into The Terraformer

This World Is Getting Cleansed Of Corruption One Way Or Another

At some point or another, we all have to address thegrowing problem of the Corruption or Crimson biomespreading across our world. While the Clentaminator can certainly get the job done, you might as well get a Terraformer if you’ve already beaten the Moon Lord.

The main differences are that the Terraformer shoots farther, has a wider area of effect, and has a 33 percent chance to not consume the Solution you’ve loaded it with. If you’re gunning for the achievement that requires you to completely purify your world, this is a must-have tool.

1Turning The Rod Of Discord Into The Rod Of Harmony

Behold, The Powers Of A True God

The Rod of Discord is an exceptionally rare, but really useful item that allows you to teleport wherever your mouse cursor is, and is completely free to use, with no mana or ammunition costs. The catch is that every teleport inflicts a debuff that makes you lose health.

If you’ve defeated the Moon Lord, you can transform this item into the Rod of Harmony, which functions exactly the same as the Rod of Discord, but without inflicting any harmful effects on you, allowing you to teleport as much as you want.
