Stardew Valley’s update 1.6.1 adds so much to the productivity side of the game that it’s hard to imagine the game without these items already. There are so many new things to try out and explore, but the items make that exploration and adventure far more efficient. If you’re an avid farm simulator fan, this update has your best interests in mind.
No matter what your favorite skill to fill your days with is, from fishing to mining, this update gives you a few new items to become an elite player in no time. Well, in a few seasons, anyway. But they’ll pass faster now!
10Fish Smoker
This item works a lot like a furnace, but for any raw fish you catch. On the Riverland Farm, you start off with aFish Smokeron your island and can start cooking fish right from the moment you move into Pelican Town! Not only are you able to cook fish outside the kitchen now, but this item exactly doubles the price of each fish you cook with it.
The addition of an item so essential to the fishing of the game is now something that boosts your profits a considerable amount, especially when you start catching more valuable fish later in the game. If you weren’t motivated to become a pro angler before, a Fish Smoker should help!
9Sonar Bobber
If you like playing without anyfishing modsadded to your farm, this item should help take some of the guessing game away from your daily fishing. It’s available from Willy’s shop at the bottom of the map, like all other fishing supplies, and it’ll help you see what’s on the other end of your line before you reel it in.
This item looks like a little GPS system, and your fishing trips will look a lot more high-tech with this in your inventory.Sonar Bobbersadd a hint of relief to fishing for those who just want one specific fish out of their trip, since you can read the end of your rod before going through the effort of reeling anything in.
8Tent Kits
Tent kitslet you build a small home you can place anywhere outside your farm and sleep for the night. It’s especially helpful if you’re out adventuring late in the mines, or on the far opposite side of the town when midnight just happens to hit. Playing this game makes you familiar with the rush of the evening, unless you tend to go to sleep around when the sun starts to set. We’ve all had those days.
This item is available to craft out ofhardwood, cloth, and fiber,and it requires a higher level of foraging to unlock the recipe, but if you’ve got the materials, you can get a tent in no time. The ever-expanding world has many situations where you need a tent to keep your farmer alive and awake - until you hit your traveling pillow, that is.
7Heavy Furnace
Smelting metal is a good way to get gold quickly, andiron or copper barscan appear as quest requirements at any point in the game, too. So it’s important to have a furnace that’s capable of handling the high demand for such valuable items. That’s exactly what this update has in mind.
Its crafting recipe is fairly similar to the normal furnace, it just demands a higher volume of materials than the smaller model. That’s no surprise, and neither is the fact that theHeavy Furnaceitem increases the speed of bar smelting by almost double. Effective time management is the goal when running a farm, after all.
6Big Chest
On the subject of efficiency, who doesn’t love having more storage space? That’s what theBig Chestallows you to have, by upgrading your current chest space or skipping the mini-chest altogether. Like a lot of these upgrades, Big Chest doubles the storage space you have in a single chest, and its crafting recipe follows the exact same rules as the regular chest.
you may even place this chest over its smaller counterpart to upgrade it, which doesn’t affect any of the items in the chest. You don’t have to be a Joja Mart employee to love bigger, better things, sometimes you just have to wait and bigger, better items will come to you!
5Dehydrator
This item is such a fun concept, it makes you wonder why it isn’t a part of every farming simulator out there! Any fruit and mushroom can be dehydrated in this machine, but it’s definitely less of a starting game item. Not only does the recipe cost10,000 goldatPierre’s shop, but it requires a fire quartz, which can be tricky to get for new players.
Once you figure out how to dehydrate fruit, though, your energy levels will thank you! Each fruit you put in theDehydratorproduces a new item, exclusive to the update. If you’re someone who loves fruit chips or dried fruit in real life, this is worth experimenting with just to see the possibilities when snack time rolls around!
4Skill Books
These arestrategic items, good to stock up on if you need a required skill level for any quest or advancement in the game. They can be obtained from theBookseller, treasure chests, Artifact Spots, mystery boxes, or even given as a prize.
These books can be used to improve your skills in any of the five skills, and there are plenty of other books added to the game that can hasten your game mastery, anything from cooking to yourfriendships with the other villagers. If you’re looking to level up quickly for any reason, these books are your best bet.
3Bait Maker
This furnace-like machine will create bait for any specific fish! All you have to do is put any fish in, and it’ll spit out a bundle of bait for that fish. You’ll have to ignore the fact that the bait looks like fish roe, though. Just an unfortunate consequence of making any fishing item a bundle of circles.
you’re able to make theBait Makerfrom Coral, Iron Bars, and a Sea Urchin, which makes it fairly easy to craft from the get-go if you know where to look. This is invaluable for all those fish quests on Pierre’s quest board (if you know, you know).
2Statue Of Blessings
This statue requires a certain level of mystical knowledge to use, but once you have a healthy working relationship with your farming skill (and its Mastery), it becomes a must-have for your idyllic farm. It gives you a random blessing to get you through your day every day of the week, and this can be anything from infinite energy to luck.
Of all the things that could happen when you craft and touch the image of a mysterious stone woman, you’ll certainly be glad they are all positive effects! It requires a lot of fiber, moss, wood, and hard work to get, but once you do, you’ll be glad you put all that time in.
1Combat Trinkets
These trinkets give you various companions and buffs while you’re fighting monsters in any capacity. They either spawn you acompanionwho gives you bonuses in combat, or they can essentially be weapons that hurt enemies for you. Combat Trinkets can be found by unlocking theCombat Masteryand defeating monsters in any of the combat locations once you’ve done so.
Magic Quiver
Shoots magic arrows at enemies, dealing 21–26 damage every 1.7 seconds.
Fairy Box
Summons a leveled fairy that heals you when you take combat damage.
Parrot Egg
Summons a leveled parrot who gives you a chance to find gold coins with monster loot.
Ice Rod
Shoots an ice orb every three seconds, freezing enemies in its path for 3.5 seconds.
Summons a hungry frog to eat your enemies periodically.
Golden Spur
Critical strikes will give you a speed boost for ten seconds.
Basilisk Paw
Makes you immune to debuffs.
The parrot, frog and fairy are three absolute gems of companions, especially when you reach the Volcano and Skull Caverns. If you can think of any combat situation that’s even mildly stressful, these trinkets have you covered. In the case of theBasilisk Paw, literally covered!
