Summary
One of the main draws to The Sims franchise is the ability to make anykind of buildingyou want, and this is the case forThe Sims 4. There are tons of improvements from previous games, like modifying room sizes just by dragging them and picking up a whole building to place it wherever you want.
But, like any other game, there are limitations to Build and Buy Mode. Thankfully, that’s what mods are here for. There are plenty of mods that are perfect for improving the building and decorating experience you’ll get in The Sims 4. The best ones can evencompletely change the game.

Whenever a new patch is released for The Sims 4, be sure to update your mods in your folder so they don’t break with the patch.
Updated on June 17, 2025, by Mackenzee Hardyk:Depending on what kind of Simmer you are, building different houses and buildings in The Sims 4 is one of the best things you can do in the game. There is always new content being added and created, whether it’s from EA or the wonderful modders. As some of us are always looking for ways to improve the game, we have decided to add a few more entries of mods that will improve the build mode.

10Always Testing
Are you tired of having to type your cheats into the command bar? Always Testing is a fantastic convenience mod. Now you will no longer have to type ‘Testingcheats true’ into the game anymore, which is nice if you tend to forget to do so or if you don’t have it memorized.
Always Testing is a great mod to pair with TwistedMexi’s other mods, such as Always MOO, which forces MoveObjects On. While it doesn’t seem like a big deal to have to type these little phrases in, it certainly makes building that much easier.

9Sell Inventory
Imagine you move your Sims out of their previous house, but you accidentally kept all of the furniture in the transition and now your Sims household inventory is full of all the previous furniture in your past house. Easy mistake, but now there is a mod that provides an easy fix.
TwistedMexi’s Sell Inventory mod allows you to sell all of your household’s inventory in one go instead of having to sell each piece of furniture individually, just type ‘tm.sellinventory’ into the command bar. It’s another fantastic convenience mod to have in your back pocket just in case.

8Free Build
This Free Build mod is great for builders who love to go through non-household buildings and for those who love to build without worrying about a budget. It’s another one of those small useful mods by TwistedMexi that pair quite well with a few of their others.
Free Build forces the ‘bb.enablefreebuild’ command to stay on. It will allow you to build in any lot with an unlimited amount of money, even in households. It’s a great mod if you are enjoying build mode more than the live mode of The Sims 4.

7No Weather Buildbuy
If you have theSeasons expansion packand you love to build, this mod may be for you. You can change the time of day while in build mode, but you cannot get rid of the weather while in it, more specifically what the weather leaves behind.
The No Weather Buildbuy mod gets rid of those pesky puddles and snow so you may see the natural ground or what you have already placed underneath. It’s a useful little tool if you are building during a certain season and would rather it be devoid of weather.

6UI Cheats Extension
While the UI Cheats Extension mod is useful far beyond just using it for build mode, it definitely has its perks that will make building in The Sims 4 easier. You are able to do things such as easily adjust money, adjust the weather, and adjust the time of day.
While there are a few ways to go around money, weather, and time, the UI Cheats Extension mod just makes it easier and more accessible. It could also help your gameplay in general if you were also looking for a UI mod.

5T.O.O.L. Mod
There’s no other way to start this list than with the T.O.O.L. mod from popular creator TwistedMexi. This mod is one of the most popular in all of Sims, and for good reason, as it lets you alter and modify every object in the game however you want.
you may choose to elevate an item, resize it to make it smaller or larger, rotate it in all directions, and more. Complex and in-depth builds are incredibly easy to do with this mod since it gives you all the freedom you want while still being relatively simple to use,and even though TwistedMexi makes plenty of amazing building mods, this one takes the cake.

4Expandable BuildBuy Catalog Mod
It’s no fun to feel like you’re scrolling endlessly in Build and Buy without being able to find the one item you need. The Expandable BuildBuy Catalog mod can help, and with it, you’re able to see many more objects at once in Build and Buy Mode with just the press of a button.
When in the game, simply press the tilde key and you’ll be able to see an extra three rows in the catalog. This makes it much easier to find the item you’re looking for, and not feel like you’re squinting when trying to decorate, so if you have lots of custom furniture and build objects, this mod is a lifesaver.

3Better BuildBuy: Organized Debug Mod
Better BuildBuy is essential if you love using debug items when you’re building. This names and organizes the debug items in The Sims 4, whichfixes the main issue with the debug items since they’re not categorized by default, so you can find them easily now.
Debug items are another great option for builders who love to use clutter since they feature a huge range of normally inaccessible objects, like a TV remote. With Better BuildBuy, these items are perfectly organized, and you’ll get the expandable catalog with this download, too.

2Always Move Objects On Mod
The Move Objects cheat is one of the most frequently used when it comes to The Sims 4, butyou have to type it in every time you reopen the game. Not anymore, though, with the Always Move Objects On mod, the Move Objects cheat will always be activated.
While this mod isn’t quite as game-changing as previous ones, those who are frequent builders in The Sims 4 will know how frustrating it can be to constantly be turning on Move Objects. This mod takes away the need to enter the cheat into the cheat console, saving you some time and frustration.
1Coastal Basements And Pools Mod
Basements are a great feature of The Sims 4, allowing you to add tons of space to your Sim’s home without needing to edit the exterior. However, when trying to build a basement or pool on Sulani and other coastal lots, the game won’t let you do it.
That’s where Coastal Basements and Pools come in, as it removes the restriction, allowing you to build both pools and basements on any lot, regardless if it’s on the water. This is the mod you need for infinity pools or underwater houses in Sulani, which removes what seems like an unnecessary restriction from the game, letting your creativity run wild.
As evidenced by the majority of this list, TwistedMexi makes some of the best mods for builders in the entire Sims community. If you have an issue with building in The Sims 4, check out theirMods Listand you’ll likely find one that fixes your issue.
