Each of the 28 diverse base classes inUnicorn Overlordcan be hired in barracks and massive strongholds across the lands of Feverith. They can be customized on color schemes and voice work. But most importantly, they can be further customized on the growth types present in their unit.

There are a total of nine different growth types, and they can be blended and combined to focus on the strengths of each unit. Selecting the best combinations canhelp you build the best unitsand seeing the stats of the recruitable heroes of the LIberation can give you ideas on how to approach these other units.

Knights

Mercenaries with a large quantity of health can benefit from the Hardy growth type. With a lot of health, it would take multiple strikes from other units to bring them down, and by that time they can either heal or retaliate with their attacks.

Hardy units can be mixed with other growth types such as offensive, or balanced with defensive growth types. Higher health is a benefit for units combined with healers like clerics and bishops so that they can heal any health lost in battle.

Gladiators and Berserkers benefit from being hardy, due to their ability to heal any injury they suffer from non-critical attacks. The bestral unit, Werebears, also have the same stat increases for their health and, while they have great shields, are much more built for health.

Housecarl/Viking

A

High-damaging units benefit from building up their base offense to help bring down enemies. They are perfect for one-hit strikes and blows against unarmored enemies. Housecarls, Gladiators, and Warriors can also benefit due to their specialization in breaking down defenses and hitting multiple enemies at once. All Calvary units can also be lethal with offensive builds due to their boosted attack power.

Offensive growth types pair well with the Keen and Precise growth types for units that require that extra edge in precision and critical damage. Swordfighters and Sellswords would especially benefit since some of their attacks can help increase their AP attacks for more attacks and counters.

Sellswords/Landsknecht

Units with shields and armor can maintain a defensive line against enemy attacks. This growth type works best for the units on the front lines. Any mercenary units that carry shields have a higher increase in their stats with this growth. They can even effectively protect allies from ranged attacks and magic spells while mitigating damage with each strike.

Some classes, like Sellswords, gain a shield as part of their promotion to Landsknechts, which means later on when customizing units is possible, you’re able to have a defensive focus on them. They could wield certain shields and as a result can take advantage of those skills.

Swordfighter

S

Accuracy is important for most units, but this style is specifically made to help long-range attackers. Best placed in the back row, long-range attackers with high precision can pick off flying units and squishy units that are easy to pick off with no defense.

Even with their usually high accuracy stats, there is always the chance that Hunters and Arbalists might miss the target. Precision growth would help ensure that their accuracy is always effective. Combined with Keen growth types, archers can be effective at swiftly dispatching flying units, swift thieves, and swordfighters.

Wyvern Knight

Characters with high luck have higher chances to dodge the worst enemy attacks. This is effective for swift scouting units to ‘tank’ fearsome attacks by just dodging them. High evasion for scouts and flying units would make them already pretty untouchable to any units except for archers and spellcasters.

Flying units like Gryphon Knights and Wyvern Knights have naturally high evasion against most ground units, but are still vulnerable to archers and ranged opponents.

Hunter

The Keen growth style increases the critical hit rate of units. The higher the crit rate, the better chance your units have at defeating enemies with fewer attacks. Units with multiple attacks and targeting the enemies they’re strong against have a higher chance at being critical hits.

This is an overall good growth style to keep in mind for units that you want to be the heavy hitters in the party, depending on the weaknesses you’re hoping to exploit. High crit rates for wizards could bring down enemies weak to magic, for example, while archers could wipe out flying units.

Radiant Knight

For heavy shield bearers like Hoplites, the Guardian growth rate is good for increasing a unit’s effectiveness in defending allies and themselves from physical and magical attacks. All units with shields, such as Fighters, Hoplites and promoted Sellswords, can have higher guard rates to lessen the damage they take in battle.

This growth type pairs well with defensive, as it increases both the effects of guarding and the overall defense of units. Despite the overall physical advantages, it’s still important to consider the strength of spellcasters.

Housecarl

Increasing the initiatives of units helps them attack sooner with more effective attacks. Tactics-wise, this is perfect for getting your best-hitting units to deliver the damage as soon as possible. Units that can attack the entire row/column of enemies can be hyper-effective with high initiative.

The initiative you have in your units can make or break a battle, especially in Unicorn Overlord since you don’t manually control the flow of the battle. With your units automatically progressing through battle as part of the fighting mechanics, it’s important to make sure you have good initiative regardless of the growth types you have.

Balanced Stats For Any Unit

If you’re unsure of how to form a stat style for your units, then you can experiment or at least see how the All-Rounder style fits for them. The All-Rounder works in that it balances out the different stats each unit has. This balance is meant to help form units for practice and once you get a better understanding of their specializations, you can edit their growth later.

Overall, base melee units such as Fighters, Soldiers, Housecarls, and their promotion versions are ideal for balanced stats, so you can take advantage of the multiple strengths they have while mitigating their weaknesses as much as possible.
