Summary

Terrariais fun, but with mods, it’s even better. If you’re looking for an excuse to break out tModLoader, Terraria’s cooler older sibling, and want to fundamentally change how the game functions, whether its building, combat, NPC mechanics, or a complete overhaul altogether, you’re in the right place.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to addRPG-styleattributes and stats to your character, want to go the pacifist route by sparing certain bosses and make friends with them, have the ability to revive your friends during important fights in multiplayer, or live out your dream of cramming multiple NPCs into a single room — there’s practically something for everyone.

8Modular Base

Instant, Compact Structures

The Modular Base mod is all about building functional rooms as quickly as possible. Through the use of special consumables, you’ll be shown an outline of what the structure you’re about to place looks like, and where it will go.

From NPC rooms and storage areas that come in various sizes, to fancy armor display showcases and specialized structures for specific needs, like a lava fishing pool or a multi-liquid vat, you’ll be able to save plenty of time that’d otherwise be spent on building.

7Death Free Cam

Don’t Miss A Single Second Of The Action

Here’s a problem you might’ve run into: have you ever fought a boss or special event with your friends, only to have your health bar hit zero, and have your camera locked in place while the fighting rages on and drifts off your screen? It’s a frustrating experience.

Thankfully, the simple but effective and highly configurable Death Free Cam allows you to move your camera around as much as you want after dying, which by default is moved with the W, A, S, and D keys, and can be sped up or slowed down with your scroll wheel.

6Revive Mod

A Hardcore Player’s Delight

Dying to a boss, event, or challenging group of enemies in Terraria is practically a rite of passage, especially if you’re just starting out, playing on higher difficulties, or opting to downloadcombat-focused mods, like Calamityor Spirit Mod. Can you hear Jungle Dragon Yharon’s battle music in your head?

Anyways, like the title of the mod implies, you’ll be able to revive your fallen friends in the middle of tough fights. To prevent revive abuse, though, this mod disables normal respawning, unless all players are defeated, so verify you revive everyone as fast as possible.

5Roommates

Is This Unethical?

After a few different playthroughs, it gets really tiring building a new NPC tower or hotel every time you feel like starting out fresh. With the Roommates mod, you’ll be able to assign and cram as many NPCs into a single room as you’d like.

Just remember that you’ll need to add an extra chair for each NPC you assign to a single room. Also, as tempting as it is to put every NPC in the game in one spot, you should probablyspread them out a bit, since NPC placement matters.

4Pacifist Route

Become The Protagonist Of Hacksaw Ridge

The Pacifist Route mod makes fighting certain bosses challenging in a new way; instead of focusing on dealing damage and ultimately defeating a boss, it turns into a kind of time trial, survival experience, where you have to stay alive for a certain amount of time without fighting back.

Each applicable boss has their own pacification requirements, but if you’re successful, you’ll discover new, unique effects, or unlock a town pet of the boss you’ve pacified. Make sure you grab a grappling hook, some wings, a pair of fast boots, or some ninja gear for quick dashes and better mobility.

3Better Caves

Big Changes To World Generation

Caving is an essential part of Terraria’s charm, and overall progression, since you frequently need to dig, mine new ores, and fight new enemies to getbetter tools, weapons, and equipmentas your world stage advances and new content is unlocked.

While Terraria’s natural cave generation gets the job done, if you’re looking for a complete refresh to your spelunking experience, look no further, or deeper down your “hellavator” perhaps, than the Better Caves mod. Sometimes, all you need is a nice change of scenery.

2Another RPG Mod

Attributes And Skill Points Galore

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with Terraria’s progression system, if you’ve ever wanted RPG mechanics for your character, like an experience-based leveling system, attributes, points that can be invested in a skill tree, and more, you may’t go wrong with Another RPG Mod.

If you ever feel like the mod makes the game too hard, or you start feeling too powerful, the mod allows you to customize almost every part of it, so you can balance the game however you want. Watch out for those leveled enemies!

1Terraria Overhaul

This Changes Everything… Literally

As the name of the mod implies, Terraria Overhaul changes the core gameplay experience in over a dozen different ways, including but not limited to changes in:

It’s incredibly difficult to convey the scope of this mod without actually experiencing it for yourself. If you’re bored with vanilla Terraria, but have a hankering to get back into it, this is a great way to potentially reignite your spark for this incredible game.
