Teamfight Tacticsintroduces the new Inkborne Fables set that showcases some fun and unique traits or teams to master. Like all the other sets, there’s always one trait or team that focuses on getting items, gold, and all the good stuff related to being greedy. These teams have an extremely different playstyle compared to all the other traits in Teamfight Tactics, regardless of which set.

For set 11, that would be the Fortune team, which includes some returning champions from the Yordle team composition in set 9. Like other economy-based traits from previous sets, Fortune features a less risky approach, but only if you play it correctly. Here’s everything you need to learn about the Fortune trait, including how to build up your team.

How Does Fortune Work?

Fortune is one of the main traits featured in Teamfight Tactics' set 11. The Fortune breakpoints to activate the trait are three, five, and seven. However, there are only five Fortune units.

Invoker

Once you have at least Fortune three, you’ll see a Golden Tree right above your item bench. Fortune works like this:

Your Luck is shown on top of the Golden Tree, which usually means the potential gold value reward you may get from it when you “Cash Out.” When you start to lose five in a row, your Luck increases quite fast from that point forward. On some occasions, you’ll reach close to 20 gold when losing five in a row,but pushing it all up to eight or nine in a row gets you to 45+ gold value.

Now, how do you cash this out? Well, when you hover over the Golden Tree, you’ll see “Player combats until rewards: X.“When it reaches one, you’ll have the notification to cash out or push your luck after the player combat.

If you push your luck, the Golden Tree will roll a die (one to six) and whatever number you roll, it’ll take that many player combats before you can cash out or push your luck again.

The unique thing about Fortune is that you aren’t punished that much for pushing your luck. When you win, your luck doesn’t reset to zero. All your hard work in getting a losing streak isn’t going away, butyou’ll lose your hidden Luck multiplier through your losing streak.

It isn’t the end of the world for your strategy because when you break your losing streak, you can cash out and focus on temporarily strengthening your build until you want to get another losing streak.

However, if you often cut your streaks, you’ll eventually become weaker than most compositionsbecause you aren’t taking advantage of the Fortune trait efficiently.

This is where the next Fortune breakpoint comes in.Fortune five allows you to heal three health on every player combat round. Getting Fortune five fast gives you two to three extra rounds of losing because of the healing.

These extra rounds are the difference between getting the biggest reward power-up and losing without even opening your Golden Tree.

Fortune seven is asrare as you winning the lottery because everything needs to align. Spatulas cannot create Fortune Emblems. However, there is a Prismatic augment that gives you one Fortune Emblem, but you need two of these.

The only way to get Fortune seven is through a combination of two of the following:

When you reach Fortune seven, you gain extra rewards and gain Luck regardless of whether you win or lose.Essentially, Fortune just gives you all the items in the world, including powerful artifacts, support items, and radiant versions of items, on top of getting high-cost units and copious amounts of gold. You still have to cash out, though.

Best Fortune Builds

While Fortune seven might be everyone’s dream at this point, realistically, you are mostly going for Fortune three, without going into Fortune five.

The reason for this is that getting Annie (four-cost unit) is extremely hard to get in the early stages. Even if you want to lose all the matches, and you end up being the first one to pick in the carousel stages,Annie showing up is still rare.

Your goal isto combine Fortune with another decent trait. The best combination for Fortune would be Storyweaver because of how their traits align. Not only that, Zoe is both a Storyweaver and Fortune unit.

The basic setup would beKobuko, Sivir, Riven, Teemo, and Zoe. With just these five units, you already have Storyweaver three, Fortune three, Trickshot two, Bruiser, and Bruiser two.

If you are lucky enough to get these units early, you can guarantee a win on a few rounds, which is counterintuitive because you want to lose.

When you reach the midgame, the best combination with Fortune would be Dragonlords.Adding Janna and Lee Sin activated both Invoker and Duelist if you have Tristana and Annie. Your tanks become much stronger with the addition of Lee Sin and Annie and it is up to you to mix in other traits depending on the situation.

Another great midgame strategy is to focus on Bruiser Four and buffing your Kobuko by maximizing your interest.

Themore goldyou gain frominterest, themore HP Kobuko has. Since Bruisers have an additional percentage-based health bonus from the trait, Kobuko becomes one of the best tanks in the game (even for a 1-cost unit).

There are also great augments that buff Bruisers or even the Lucky Paws augment for Kobuko. However, you should always remember to play around with streaks. If you want to lose, make sure you are losing consecutively.

The Best Strategy To Play Fortune

Playing around your economy might look daunting when playing Fortune, but it is actually one of the easiest. Sinceyour goal of accumulating losing streaks is fixedwhen you get Fortune three, you want to save as much gold as possible.Slow roll to your heart’s content.

Slow roll:Never use the reroll button until you have at least 50 gold to maximize income. If you have some Hedge Fund augments, you are holding off even more gold.

When you reach 50 gold to maximize income, you want to level up to at least seven or eightwhile maintaining your losing streak and gold. For example, if you have 62 gold, you may buy 12 experience points for 12 gold to maintain maximum income.

Every gold you have past 50 will be spent on leveling up. Once you are at least seven or eight, attempt to start rerolling to find Annie.Annie is one of the best tanks in the game, especially when you have Invoker up. This will boost your survivability, and you’re able to let go of some Fortune units that don’t fit your team.

Before you reach that stage in the game, you should have at least 30-45 Luck if you lost consecutively. However, your health would most likely be teetering around 15-20, which is quite dangerous. However, if you play Fortune perfectly, you can mitigate some damage by barely losing each round.

This means that you are losing buttaking less damage because you were able to clean up most of the enemy’s units. That strategy is quite hard to do because it is too dependent on everyone else’s power level.

Replacing Fortune Units

The next step you should improve on isrearranging your team by selling your Fortune units after opening up a big reward. The Fortune trait is extremely weak because it doesn’t give you any combat bonuses after opening up a big reward.

If you have already opened a reward, and you have no more player health to get another losing streak, there’s no point in keeping Fortune three or even five. Doing a complete team overhaul in a single intermission phase isone of the hardest things you’ll ever do.

However, there are somequick swaps you can prepare for, such as using Heavenly, Dragonlord, Invoker, or even Storyweaver(because of Zoe). At this point, you should already be level nine, andfinding units that fit is easy to find, but you have to be fast at rerolling and choosing the right units.

Not only do you have to replace most of your units, but you also have to rearrange all the items you have.
