7Original Final Fantasy 7 Weapon Reference

Weapons are among themost challenging bossesthat appear in the original Final Fantasy 7 and comprise the Ruby Weapon and the Emerald Weapon. The Ruby Weapon is a large arachnid creature towering over the player characters with arms that have sharp claws at their ends and sharp spikes all over its body, while the Emerald Weapon is a large green sea monster that has multiple large tentacles and resides at the bottom of the sea, which you need to use a submarine to get to.

With the onset of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the Weapons have made an appearance as a fun reference which can be found in posters around the game. The specific references to these weapons are the posters that readMarvel at the Ruby Red Sunset, which features abstract artwork interwoven into it but has a striking resemblance to the Ruby Weapon, andDive Deep into the Emerald Sea, which is a direct visualization of the original game’s Emerald Weapon.

6The 1/35th Soldier Figurine

This one is one of the easiest details to overlook as it is a relatively small figurine. It can be found on one of the shelves in Tifa’s room and is a tiny soldier figurine which is a representation of Shinra soldiers that just serves as a collectible.

The figurines appeared in the original Final Fantasy 7 game and, despite them having no actual functional gameplay usage, are still a fun way to enjoy the game collecting them.

The 1/35 does not actually represent the number one out of 35 figurines, but it represents a real-life scale which is used by hobbyists to create miniature figures.

5The Slap Fight Reference Between Tifa And Scarlet

This whimsical Easter egg showcases a memorable scene that took place during the original game whereStarlet confronts Tifa, and they have a slap fight on top of a ship’s cannon before Tifa is whisked away by a helicopter.

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you will randomly come across two NPCs who are seemingly having an argument about a man, and they will start slapping each other, recreating the same scene from the original game.

4Lion King Easter Egg

Red XIII is a playable character in the game and bears a resemblance to a lion with wolf-like features. It therefore comes as no surprise that there is a reference to one of the most iconic animated movies in the game. In one of the missions, you can take a picture and Maeve will tell a story depending on the pictures you take.

When you take pictures of Red XIII, Maeve will draw some sketches and tell a story that is akin to the Lion King Saga. She even sketches Red XIII on a rock overlooking a forest similar to Simba in the animation, which is a subtle reference for anyone who enjoys both the game and the movie.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth features its very own card game, in which you will participate in a tournament-style format aboard a ship. The tournament is part of the main storyline and is known as theQueen’s Blood, featuring five rounds of the game where you have to defeat five other characters to win.

After the final round, if you manage to win as Cloud, you are handed over a trophy by the ship’s captain, which is followed by a celebration. If you listen closely, as part of Cloud’s celebration, he hums the original Final Fantasy 7 victory theme song, which is a delightful surprise, especially if you have played the original game.

2The Turtle Shell

The Turtle Shell is a common accessory in the Final Fantasy series, and it is used as a protection item when crafted together with other items. It was first seen in Final Fantasy 3, but its usage and mode of acquisition vary across the various Final Fantasy games.

However, it is primarily used for defense. In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you can find a unique reference to it as a large turtle shell resting on a table with a dark brown aesthetic in the Maghnata Books store.

1Kingdom Hearts Easter Egg

In the eighth chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the Turks are in the search for Barret when Elena ends up stuck in the desert. She is seemingly exhausted and keeps complaining about the heat in an interesting conversation with Rude over her radio. In the conversation, she ends up asking Rude to bring her ice cream.

When she is eventually rescued and on a chopper ride, there is a cutscene featuring her eating ice cream, but the ice cream itself has the exact blue coloring present in thesea-salt ice cream in Kingdom Hearts 2. The reference itself is not completely defined apart from the color of the ice cream, but given that the two games are developed by Square Enix, this is a good instance of cross- referencing between the two games.
