Nightingaletakes the survival craft genre three steps forward by including complex crafting mechanics that include ways to augment your crafting benches. These unlock various crafting recipes you gather throughout your travels in the Faewild that give a unique challenge to your progression.

However, the mix of unlocking new types of benches, finding crafting recipes out of order, and only being able to augment a bench a certain number of times can confuse even experienced survival gamers. When flipping through the many crafting cards, there are a handful of Augmentations you should prioritize placing first.

If you separate your crafting benches, you may avoid Augmentations affecting multiple at a time, potentially limiting your access to certain recipes.

4Workbench

Simple Saddle Rack

Likely the first firearmcrafting recipe you’ll come acrossis the Lancaster Pistol, which can only be crafted with a Simple Saddle Rack in early levels. The only problem with this Augmentation is that it needs more than a handful of materials, but all are relatively simple to achieve.

The Saddle Rack is also how you are going to make elemental ammo for revolvers later on, so if you plan on making handguns your main weapon, you should keep this Augmentation standing.

Placing a blasting machine in nightingale

Blasting Machine

The Blasting Machine is one of the many Augmentations that has only one purpose for workbenches, and this one is unlocking the Refined Mining Pick. Out of the many tools you first start upgrading out of stone, the Mining Pick is one of the most important.

Other than greatly upgrading the durability, it also unlocks various ore and gem deposits across multiple realms, giving you access to much-needed materials for both crafting and upgrading. It also unlocks all Mining Picks once you eventually pick up their recipes.

Open Toolbox

Like an upgraded version of the Blasting Machine, the Open Toolbox unlocks potential recipes for both wood axes and hammers. This means it can replace the Hand Planer, which only unlocks wood axes, and the Rustic Toolbox, which requires rarer materials.

Initially, this is only really useful for the Refined Woodaxe, which is thefirst major upgradefor axes and also has respectable damage output. Later on, you’ll unlock hammers, which turn from being a repair tool to a weapon that can replace even the maul.

3Enchanter’s Focus

Meat Grinder

Overall, the Enchanter’s Focus has the most augmentations that overlap with other benches, making it relatively simple to build around. One of the best examples is the Meat Grinder, which is also a primary Augmentation for the Campfire.

The main reason to get this first is to unlock the Charm of the Lumberjack and the Charm of the Bruiser, which you will get early on. Especially with the Lumberjack charm, it can help you with the overwhelming necessity for wood bundles.

Like the Meat Grinder, the Open Toolbox shares important and early recipes for both the Sewing Bench and Workbench, making it overall the most important Augmentation to prioritize right away. With the Enchanter’s Focus, the charms it unlocks are more defense focused.

The ones you’ll probably get first are the Charm of Fatigue, and the Charm of Venom. While neither are game breaking, they allow you to traverse dangerous realms while allowing you to fight under otherwise lethal conditions

placing a simple map in nightingale

2Sewing Bench

Simple Map

The Augmentations for sewing benches follow a more linear path as you will unlock individual sets of clothing one at a time. The Simple Map is how you unlock the Explorer’s Cropped Breeches and Intrepid Shirt, which will likely be your first upgrade out of the Trapper set.

The most important part is unlocking the entire Explorer set along with a couple of unique additions that might take some time to fully achieve. Of all the Augmentations, this will most likely be the first you replace at higher levels.

placing a formula board in nightingale

Formula Board

Unlocking multiple sets and further allowing you to upgrade your clothing, the Formula Board opens the Sewing Bench to the Scholar and Calcularian sets along with a handful of unique items.

This is where you will be able to experiment with different stats bonuses and be able to mix and match sets to suit your playstyle. Also, the Formula Board is a direct upgrade of the Mounted Creature Skull, and will likely never have to replace one with the other.

1Campfire

Other than the Spit Roast, which is likely the first Augmentation you use anywhere, the Meat Grinder is a direct upgrade that unlocks most of the meals you will ever make in Nightingale. The first two being Tack and Spring Rolls.

The most difficult aspect of this Augmentation is that it unlocks recipes that require materials not easily accessible without being able to farm flour. However, you can eventually make complex meals that greatly increase your health, stamina, and hunger.

placing a crude chaparral trout trophy in nightingale

Crude Chaparral Trout Trophy

Unlike the Meat Grinder, the Trout Trophy only unlocks three meal recipes, but those recipes can only be accessed by one of two Augmentations. These arethe three fish recipeswhich can be beneficial depending on which biome your Abeyance realm resides.

You can also get the same recipes from the Fishing Trap, but you need at least a Refined Tanning Station and a Refined Spinner to get the materials required, whereas the Trout Trophy needs little more than a single fish.

If you replace your Campfire with a Bonfire, you can apply more Augmentations to it.
