Use the Environment

Environments are vast and engaging, souse them to your advantage. For example, you canpick up rocks and throw themat enemies. You can alsoset fire to the grassto ignite an area and everyone in it. You can evenpick up enemies that flinchand throw them back at their allies.

Diversify Your Party

Pawns will be your greatest allies. Depending onyour starting vocation, you’ll need to pick a complimentaryvocation for your Pawn. If you’re more of a ranged combatant, fill your party with fighters and thieves that can get up close and personal with your enemies.

Theright composisiton for your partydepends on your playstyle, but you’ll want tohave all your bases covered. A party filled with fighters is strong, but without balance, you can quickly find yourself overwhelmed.

Start Climbing

The bigger your enemies are, the more fun it is to climb them. Additionally, it’s a great way to avoid taking damage and attack your enemy. Whether youclimb a dragon’s backand hold on for dear life or youscale the legs of a cyclops and dangle off their arms, use your weight to your advantage.

Climbing will cost stamina, so you may want to choose your moment carefully.

You canthrow enemies off balance and distract them, allowing your Pawns to swoop in and deal more damage. You can alsotopple bigger enemies, which allows you to attack them fiercely. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Consume Healing Items

Healing items are relativelyeasy to make, but it’s important to drink them. Even if you thinkyou’re out of HPand are going to have a Game Over screen, quickly drink a potion or eat some raw ingredientsto restore a bit of health andcrawl away from an encounter.

The window for this is small, so act fast!

Having ahealthy stock of healing items on handfor you and your Pawns will make combat go much smoother, especially against tougher foes. Additionally, when you find a camp site, take time to rest and cook a mealto restore your health and stamina.

Exploit Weaknesses

Almosteverything has a weakness. For example, acyclops has one eyein the center of its head and a weakness to magic.

Fire seems to be particularly effective in many situations.

While you may not know every enemy’s weakness, yourPawns might have some experienceto share with you. Listen to them and use your wits to exploit weaknesses and turn the tide of battle in your favor.

Retreat

No one wants to admit defeat, but it’s much better tolive and fight another daythen die over and over and continually lose health. If youback up your save file, it may not be a big deal, but it can grow increasingly frustrating over time.

Instead, if need be, start running away. YourPawns will follow, if able, and you can alwaysfind another way aroundlater orcome back when you’re stronger.
