Summary
AlthoughFoamstarsseems like a casual and lighthearted game at first glance, its ranked mode can be very sweaty and competitive once you get into it.Team compositionsare a crucial factor in ranked play, and picking the best and most meta characters is important for success. Some characters are just better than others in competitive.
While there are only eight characters in the game as of now, and some of them see way more game time than others. This list will rank all the best characters you can choose for the ranked mode in Foamstars based on their popularity within the community andhow strong their abilities are.

5The Baristador
A Long-Ranged Beast
The Baristador is a great choice for you if you like to attack from long range. His main gun is called the Coffee Breaker and can shoot out foam at long distances to chill out enemies. This is the perfect character for getting map control, but he can be quite vulnerable in close-range battles. His L1 ability is theSuper City Roast, which releases his bubble beast, Toraja, to cut through any mounds and spray foam all over the place.
The Baristador can only be unlocked by reaching level 3 of the game.

His other ability is theBitter Drip, which sends out missiles in a straight line that creates a wall wherever they hit. This can be a good ability for blocking off enemies and also buy you some time. His ultimate, theLatte Art Royale,is also very strong and sends Toraja up into the air, who then fires milk lasers at the enemies closest to it. This is an amazing ability for pressuring your opponents and chilling them out.
4Penny Gwyn
A Perfect Choice For Beginners
Penny Gwyn is probably the most-picked character in the game due to how strong her abilities are andhow easy she is to pick up for beginners. Her assault rifle is very simple to use and shoots out foam instead of bullets. This can be used to zone out areas before moving in to focus on close-range fights. Her abilities include thePenguin Squad, which places a Penguin that shoots foam at enemies and can be good for putting pressure on them.
HerToboggan Bombability comes with two charges and consists of a sliding penguin that clears up the path ahead of it and fills it up with foam. This can then be used in combination with your teammates and allow them to push more aggressively behind it. Her Ultimate is theEmperor March, which sends out a large penguin that explodes on contact. This ability does a lot of damage, so it’s recommended to stay as far away from it as possible.

3Mel T
The Best Defensive Character
Although Mel T might not seem the strongest character the first time you play her, once you get used to her abilities, you will realize that she is a very strong defensive choice and can anchor down zones while also providing support to her teammates. The best way to play Mel T is to get to a high-ground location and then use her homing rocket launcher to provide cover for teammates and yourself. Another underrated aspect of Mel T is her small hitbox, which makes her very tough to hit.
Mel T is the only character in the game that isn’t available for free and must be purchased through the Battlepass.

HerSweet Campaignis a defensive ability that can restrict the movement of your enemies and also allow you to get out of trouble. Her R1 ability,Sumptuous Promo, can also be very useful as it fires ice cream missiles at enemies while also spreading a lot of foam. Her ultimate,Force Beam Tasting,is perhaps the weakest on the list as it takes a lot of time to execute, and you’re able to easily be foamed out of it. But It can still be very effective if you do manage to hit it as it shoots cream lasers at its opponents.
2Tonix
An Annoying Opponent
Tonix is one of the most annoying characters to play against, so having one on your team in ranked is a must. She is also the perfect support character and a great choice if you prefer to fight from the backlines and not go too aggressive. Tonix’s abilities have a lot of foam output and are perfect for displacing opponents. This works really well in combination with her charge shot, which can two-shot opponents close to her.
Although Mr. Bouncy Bubble is a good ability on its own, it works even better if you time it with your turret, as your opponents will already be distracted and won’t have much time to break it.

Her best ability isMs. Fizzy Turret III, which targets players and attacks them with a lot of foam. Not only does this ability lay out a lot of foam, but it can also be used in combination with other abilities to bring out its best. Tonix’s other ability,Mr. Bouncy Bubble, consists of a bomb that can home in on its targets and blow up in their faces. Her ultimate,King Blaster XIII,is also very powerful and fires three blasts onto its closest opponent. This can cause a lot of damage and also displace your enemies.
1Soa
The Most Versatile Choice
Soa is the face of Foamstars, and she is arguably the best character in the game as well. Boasting two handguns as her weapons of choice, Soa excels at getting up close to her enemies and then chilling them out. HerBubble Stepability is amazing for getting her out of trouble and allowing her to close distance to her opponents. This is alsoone of the few movement-based abilities in the gameand is perfect for players who like to be mobile while playing.
She also has theSpikey Beat, which is a sticky bomb that sticks to a surface before causing a massive explosion around it. This ability can be great when paired up withher ultimate,Gotta Crush. This ultimate allows Soa to take the form of a huge spiky hamster ball that sprays foam on every surface it touches. Soa is the perfect all-round character and should be your first choice if you are looking for a Foamstar in the solo mode.
