The Berserker class is extremely straightforward and easy to learn but hard to master inBackpack Battles. The class alone has thousands of item combinations, and the Berserker-exclusive items and subclasses make it extremely confusing for new players, especially those who chose the Berserker as their first class to play.
The core gameplay of the Berserker class relies on great survivability through armor while dealing damage, depending on which path you choose. On top of that, you also rely on your unique Forging Hammer to combine amazing items and try to pair those with powerful synergies. Here’s everything you need to know about Backpack Battles' Berserker Class.

Backpack Battles is in early access. All the information written in this guide is subject to change. If changes need to be made, we will amend the article as soon as possible, so feel free to check again.
Berserker Class Overview
The Berserker class excels at prolonging the fightby stacking armor and regeneration while dealing damage through powerful crafted weapons. Mostgeneral items available to all classesalso work well with the class.
One of the biggest power spikes you can get from the early rounds is by combining a simple leather piece and forging it into a Dragonscale armor piece, specifically the chest piece. With this power spike, you can eventually path to whichever build you want or even go greedy by buying some Piggybanks and Box of Riches.

For most builds, you rely on a strong melee weapon rather than having multiple ones. There are a lot of Berserker-exclusive items that boost your weapons, especially when you reach the subclass rounds. Most early weapons are temporary since you’ll be waiting for a better one after you get your subclass.
Generally, you want to go with what the game gives you. If you are stacking food or Nature items, you should start with a frying pan. If you want some pets, you’ll stack some pets while waiting for the companion subclass to show up and build on from there.

Most synergies aren’t required, butit is much easier to create a strong endgame build if you focus on one or two aspects. It isn’t as hellish as making a train of cards build from the Reapers.

Wolf companions will start being offered in the shop.

Runes will start showing up in the shop.
Start of Battle: Gain one Luck for each socketed Gemstone in your items
Every 3s: Use two Luck to gain five random buffs.
While most of these unique items require a specific setup, they are all great if you can synergize all your items together.
Fighter
For the Fighter subclass, you either want a fast-hitting weapon with a good on-hit effect or an extremely strong weapon with a lot of gem stacks. It is mandatory toarrange your backpack in a way that the Brass Knuckles buffs up your strongest weaponwhile in the Duffle Bag so everything triggers faster.
If you want slow bursts of damage, you’ll combine your Brass Knuckles with a Double Axe (crafted from two Axes) or an Impractically Large Greatsword and rely on other items such as shields, armor, and food for survivability.

You also have the option of using low cooldown weapons(fast-hitting) like a Bloodthorne and rely on your Vampirism buff for survivability while doing decent damage because of the Brass Knuckles buff.
The Fighter subclass is the most beginner-friendly Berserker buildsince the Brass Knuckles only takes up one space. It is also easy to rearrange your items so that the Brass Knuckles buffs your weapons while placed in the Duffle Bag.

Blacksmith
The Blacksmith opens up a lot of new item combinations since it generates Flame.Flame crafts great flame weapons like the Burning Blade, which are mostly exclusive to the Pyromancer class.
Since you are also stacking up a ton of Flame every round, you might as welltake advantage of the Flame effects where you are stacking Heat, and your items will trigger faster for each Heat stack. You can synergize items with trigger effects without looking into what type of items you have.
For example, you can haveGingerbread Jerry, Heart of Darkness, and a Wolpertinger, which are food, accessories, and pets, respectively.
While they are all different, they all benefit from the Heat stacks. Backpack management is much easier, too, because a Flame only takes up one space, and it’ll be easier to move things around when you have multiple one-slot items.
While you want things to synergize with the Heat stacks, you want to plan out how you want to deal damage and how you plan on surviving longer. Pay attention to the buffs you have and build from there.
The Chieftain is one of the hardest subclasss to manage. The Deerwood Guardian’s positioning must be perfect to take advantage of prolonging your Battle Rage buff. It has seven stars, and you can place multiple nature items on each star to maximize the buff.
However, all the great nature items, like a Tetris piece, take up slots. It’ll be hard to manage everything, let alone get the right nature items to fit. Generally, you want to build around your Battle Rage if you choose the Chieftain.
You already have a ten percent damage taken reduction buff, and you’ll gain more survivability since most nature items are food items that give you either regeneration, health, or armor. While stacking all these nature items, you’ll deal considerably lower damage than other classes because most of your backpack is filled with food.
Your overall goal is to deal damage during your prolonged Battle Rage period. For example, the Busted Blade deals a whopping 50-60 damage per attack but has a five-second cooldown. It has an effect where, during your Battle Rage, it decreases its stamina usage to three and cooldown to three.
Most of your damage will come from your Battle Rage duration.
Take advantage of items with strong Battle Rage effects. Since you are prolonging them with the Deerwood Guardian, you should make it mandatory to use an item that benefits from Battle Rage while putting as many nature items on your Deerwood Guardian.
Pack Leader
The Wolf Emblem or Pack Leader build is quite simple, butit’ll challenge your backpack management skills to a whole new level. The Wolf Emblem wants a ton of pets around it, and you’ll see a lot of stars where you can activate the buff by putting a pet item on it.
You’ll see that each of the stars is literally next to each other, and most pets, like the Gooberts and the Whelps, are about 4x4 in slot size. These are quite hard to add to your inventory, but on the bright side, you’ll also see some Puppies that only take up two slots.
Your goal is to place the Wolf Emblem outside the Duffle Bag while buffing your main weapon inside the Duffle Bag and putting pets around the emblem to buff them even more. The Wolf Emblem increases the critical strike chance by 10 percent per connected pet.
Most of the space will be taken up by pets and your weapons, so it is quite hard to add other items unless you get lucky at getting more backpack slots every round.
Technically speaking, you don’t need to fill up every star from the Wolf Emblem since you only want at least 10 to gain a 100 percent critical strike chance.
Shaman
Shaman Mask is extremely fun to use as a beginner. However,it relies heavily on getting an early Box of Riches, so you can start stacking up some free gemstones.
If you can get at least two or three Box of Riches before even reaching the subclass round, there’s no choice but to take the Shaman Mask.
For a quick overview, you want to place as many gemstones on any item so you can get the stacking Luck buff from the Shaman Mask. Every three seconds, the Shaman Mask will consume two stacks of Luck for five random buffs.
If you place your Shaman Mask in bags that let it trigger faster (Fanny Pack or Duffle Bag),you get five random buffs every two seconds instead. This is very powerful, but it is hard to pull off because you need to stack a lot of Luck to trigger the Shaman Mask.
Your goal is to use items that have several gem sockets, such as the Double Axe or the Busted Blade. In a way, both weapons should be your only options, since most swords only have one to three gem slots.
You also need to add armor pieces, preferably a chest piece, which will have at least three more gem sockets. Some accessories have some open gem slots, too, so take advantage of those items.
When you get your Shaman Mask, you’ll start finding exclusive Runes in the shop. You should aim to buy all these Runes because they are all very strong.Aim to get a Hawk Rune, Badger Rune, Ruby, Corrupted Crystal, and a Topaz on your weapon.
Adjust to the situation, determine what you need, and place the appropriate gemstones in your open armor sockets.
There’s also a fun experimental build where you can stack several Badger Runes in your backpack, so your items use 10 percent less stamina. When you bring your stamina usage low enough, you can start adding multiple weapons, which should scale your damage tremendously.
