“Can you beatBaldur’s Gate 3as a cat?” They can’t talk, cast spells, or do anythinguseful,so it’s a big ask sending a party of four felines to defeat the Absolute, but that didn’t stop YouTuber Proxy Gate Tactician from trying.
You start asa druid, escape the nautiloid ship, level up, wild morph into a cat, and get to work on respeccing your party to do the same.
There is an immediate barrier, though. You can’t talk to Shadowheart on the beach, and there are two deceptively difficult walking brains blocking your path. So, PGT grabbed some boxes from camp and built a jumpable stairway up the side of the cliff. But another barrier quickly presented itself, the Grove fight. Since they’re a cat, they weren’t much help and Wyll died.
However, PGT befriended a rat, assassinated a paralysed woman, snuck into the Grove’s inner sanctum, andspoke to the snaketoask it not to nip a kid with its venomous fangs. Of course, the evil child-killing snake refused and proceeded to… kill a child. Something tells me being a cat isn’t the best way to diffuse these kinds of situations.
There are occasions where you have to leave cat form - at camp, when forcibly ripped out of it by a cutscene, and when using doors or travel points like boats. For instance, when PGT ventured to the goblin camp, the artefact ripped them out of wild shape. you may’t beat Baldur’s Gate 3 with a cat party active at all times, but you can come pretty damn close.
PGT took to Reddit after posting this video to share some of the highlights. Firstly, you can kill Raphael in Act 1 for 1,400 XP since he can’t initiate a conversation with a cat. Balthazaar’s UndeadandMychenoids can speak to you without you leaving wild shape. And meowing can be used to lure enemies, which is handy for setting up traps instead of relying on your claws for everything.
Things got easier by the end at least since PGT didn’t stick with house cats, utilising the big cat transformations to make things a bit easier. They got to the Absolute finally and being in wild shape stopped the four enemies from spawning. Then the party went invisible to sneak past everything, reaching the crown, and mauling the brain to death. So, you’re able to sort of beat Baldur’s Gate 3 with a party of cats… granted you leave wild shape every now and then to open doors.
