Anyone who attended PAX East this year had the chance to pick up theBaldur’s Gate 3soundtrack on cassette. Right now, this is the only way you could have gotten the unique piece of merch, letting you listen to the game’s score as we would have if it launched more than 20 years ago.

As it happens, the novelty of owning a cassette in 2024 isn’t the only appeal of having the collector’s item. It also contains a unique track that can’t be found online - a synthwave edit of the character creator theme, Down by the River by Borislav Slavov.

Thanks to voice actor Anna Brisbin, we can hear some of the song for ourselves. While I haven’t heard the whole thing, I can confidently say that it’s an absolute bop, and am demanding thatLarianuploads the track online immediately.

The good news is that the cassette shouldn’t be a PAX-exclusive item for much longer, so you won’t have to hunt down any resellers. The official Baldur’s Gate 3 account has previouslyconfirmedthat the cassette will be “available online at a later date”, so we’ll just have to patiently wait for its wider release. For the time being though, I can confirm that it’s not on Spotify, so the track will probably remain cassette-exclusive for the time being. Now we just have to track down some cassette players…

There are a couple of other Baldur’s Gate 3 tracks that don’t appear in the main soundtrack. One is therock cover of The Power, exclusive to players who go to Avernus with Karlach. Another isa version of Down by the Riverthat you’ll only hear if you kill Lae’zel at the end of the game.

While there’s no release date for the cassette just yet, we dofinally have a better idea of when the Deluxe Editions of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be with us. Anyone who purchased it for PC might already have it in their hands now, as orders are being shipped. Those of us who bought copies for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, however, will have to wait “between April and May” for our orders to arrive.

Deluxe Editions on console will come with a physical copy of the game, following Baldur’s Gate 3’s digital-only launch in 2023. It will be spread across two discs onPlayStation 5and four discs onXbox Series X- it’s a big ol' game, after all.
