Diablo 4’sLunar Awakening event gives players a chance to play with shrine buffs more often. For the duration of this short event, players will find empowered shrines all throughout Sanctuary that are protected by dozens of spirits. Slay these spirits while empowered by these Lunar Shrines, and you’ll earn new cosmetic rewards, bundles of Gold, and reward caches that contain Legendary gear and unique Nightmare Dungeon Sigils.
Participating in this event is fairly simple, but there is little in-game information on how the Lunar Shrines work, how the XP bonus works in this event, or how to earn Ancestral Favor. This guide will address all of those questions and more, covering everything from all Lunar Shrine effects to this event’s unique rewards.
What Is The Lunar Awakening Event?
The Lunar Awakening event is a Diablo 4 event that runs from February 6 to February 20.During this event, certain shrines in Sancutary will be buffed with a Lunar Awakening variant, offering a secondary effect and a temporary 50% XP bonus. You can randomly find these shrines in all content, although certain Whispers and Nightmare Dungeon affixes can guarantee their presence.
When you log in during the event, you’ll receive an event quest that requires you tospeak with Ying-Yue in Ked Bardu.She acts as your main contact for this event, offering rewards as you defeat monsters while affected by a Lunar Shrine. Most of this event’s rewards are Gold bundles, but there are some exclusive cosmetics up for grabs, including a unique mount skin.
Eternal Realmand Seasonal charactersboth have access to this event. Reputation tracks are separate across both realms, but cosmetic rewards from this event may be used anywhere.
How Lunar Shrines Work
Lunar Shrines are stronger variants of standard shrines that can appear all throughout Sanctuary.All Lunar Shrines are marked with a purple asterisk on your minimap, making them quite easy to find. Not every shrine in Sanctuary will be converted into a Lunar Shrine, although there are two guaranteed ways to spawn Lunar Shrines:
Cleanse Shrineis a Whisper objective that requires you to find a nearby Lunar Shrine and clear it of nearby enemies. These shrines are typically found in World Events, requiring you to kill Miserly Spirits for 60 seconds.Killing at least three Elites during the event will grant bonus rewards from the final chest, although this has no impact on the Lunar Awakening event itself.
Nightmare Sigilshave a low chance of dropping with the “Ancestors' Favor” positive affix during this event, forcing at least three Lunar Shrines to spawn. Additionally,any Nightmare Dungeons with the Ancestors' Favor affix willaward 10% additional Glyph XP.Bear in mind that once the event ends, only the Glyph XP bonus will remain; Lunar Shrines willnotspawn after Lunar Awakening ends.
Lunar Shrine Buffs
Artillery Shrine
You attack faster, and your abilities summon a barrage of holy projectiles.
Increased attack speed and chance to reset cooldowns.
Conduit Shrine
You become a ball of lightning, shocking enemies you pass through.
Greed Shrine
Dealing damage spawns Gold.
While active, killing 25 enemies will spawn a Treasure Goblin. Also triggers at 50 kills.
Lethal Shrine
You always deal critical strikes.
Chance to execute enemies, inflicting fear on nearby monsters. Excludes bosses.
Protection Shrine
You are invulnerable.
All incoming damage is reflected. Scales with level and World Tier.
Bonus XP And Ancestral Favor
While you are affected by a Lunar Shrine, you will earn 50% bonus XP and accumulate Ancestral Favor for each monster you slay.This XP bonus is only active while you’re affected by a Lunar Shrine.Since Lunar Shrines last as long as their normal counterparts (roughly 10-20 seconds), it’s recommended that you group enemies together before activating one.
Ancestral Favoris a reputation system you’ll earn by slaying monsters while a Lunar Shrine buff is active.This reputation system has20 tiers of rewards, with each tier requiring more Ancestral Favor than the last. Fortunately, the reputation requirement for each tier is incredibly small. An endgame player can unlock all 20 rewards within a couple of hours if they focus on Lunar Shrine content.
All Lunar Awakening Rewards
There are 20 rewards you’re able to earn during the Lunar Awakening event, half of which are Gold bundles. Excluding those, each tier will award either Greater Awakened Spoils—a reward cache that drops Nightmare Sigils with the Ancestors' Favor affix—or an event-themed cosmetic. If you focus on completing Lunar Shrine content, you can earn all 20 rewards in a couple of hours. The exact reward track may be found below.
