Chinese company NetEase, in its third collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, hasjust announced free-to-play hero shooterMarvel Rivals. The game has 6v6 matches, destructible environments, and a roster full of Marvel characters, each with their own (frankly, very cool-looking) canonically accurate movesets. From the very first trailer, Pepper Grinder has made it clear that its focus was on nail-biting, speedy precision platforming centred around the use of a massive drill to carve through the ground like a spiky mole. Add in a puntastic name and gorgeous pixel art and I was likeputty in Pepper Grinder’s sharp hands from the word go. While Devolver’s last utility-weapon game (a genre I hope it continues to champion),2023’s excellent Gunbrella, had a surprisingly engaging story that stood out as one of its highlights, Pepper Grinder goes in the opposite direction and almost entirely forgoes telling one....

Yet there are so many other historical periods to draw from rather than just medieval Europe. There is a whole world (and time periods) of rich stories and legends to pull from....

Elden Ringis an excellent game. It’s the most densely designed open world I’ve ever explored, one where, even in areas you’re ridden through a hundred times, there are always more secrets to uncover. During my time with the game, I would sometimes walk a few meters further in a direction than I had before and find something entirely new waiting for me. If you love to explore, there are few games better....
